iPhone is good mainly for the App Store, but who's to say the Android Market won't overtake it?

I'm saying iPhone for now.
I think the App Store is overrated. So many of the apps are useless crap on both sides. And most of the "must have" apps have been out on both platforms for a while in some form.

The best part about the iPhone is app compatibility and consistency. Android developers have to develop for multiple resolutions and other hardware specs. Android has Swype though...

Windows Phone 7.

The iPhone has problems with price for me, and has a horrible clunky UI. Android has a major problem; Google thinks letting app developers verify their own apps for security is a good idea.
Also, for some reason Android seems to follow the iPhone's clunky UI design.
In terms of usability, both of them are indeed far below Windows Phone. Sadly, lots of people don't even give it a try.

iPhone is closed, and does not even support basic things like Flash and Java.

Android wins by default.

To be honest, I'm one of those people currently. My main reason for avoiding Windows phone, is because I ust to have one, and, it came with a stylus, so it was very irritating. Besides, I just don't see Windows dominating the app market like Android will.

I still can't shake the feeling that Android, iPhone, Windows Phone, are so toy-like that they hardly get used as a phone anymore. Might as well be the next Gameboy. Now there's a novel idea: A Gameboy Phone. Nintendo, get on that! I might even ditch my BlackBerry for that...

Iphone for now. It is more accessible and has a better app selection. But Android will probably be better in the future.

But on this site everyone is going to say Android. Anything as long as it isn't supporting Apple right guys? Because they are soooo evil and never did anything to help advance the computing industry! Right? Sheesh.

I've got an ol' Motorola cell phone.

Wouldn't know why anyone would need more than that...

Is that the Xperia Play? Is it any good?

OT: Android all the way. Customize-ability.

Actually it's probably more to do with the fact that there are a lot of tech savvy guys and gals hanging around the Escapist and due to the resrictive natures of iOS it's bound to be bashed by said techies. Me included.

You can bash Android OS as much as you like; if you've had a bad experience with it it's likely that you're using it on one of their budget phones. With a little bit of Linux knowhow you can literally do anything you want with Android OS on a good piece of hardware (see HTc Desire or Experia).

I'm pro Android. I've had experience with iPhones and iPod touches and I'm really not missing anything. Hardware wise between a Desire and iPhone there's not much seperating the two, save maybe a larger resolution on the iPhone 4.

Hardware specs and price are key factors. I believe that Android provieds as much functionallity as an iPhail and most likely costs less. From our circle of friends recently 4 people got upgraded to new gen smartphones. Three bought HTC (one pro 7, 2 DizireZ) all of them with a qwerty keyboards and one bought an iPhail. All operational systems are covered. I got the Windows Phone 7, both the other HTCs are with Android and the iOS on the Apple device. Here is the weird part. We are all pleased. Even I with my WP7 that has less functionallity than my sony ericson from 5 years ago. So it comes to personal taste I think. If you are a fan of some software or hardware, you will like whatever new there is and no one will be able to change your mind.

In hardware comparison, HTCs have better processors, more ram and so on more than the iPhail. So yeah, in conclusion simply like what you've got :) and ignore everyone else.

Personally, I'm quite pleased with my phone's Android platform.

Haven't really tried out an Iphone though, the price and closed platform kind of scared me off despite their good design (not that the HTC Legend isn't a looker) and renowned user friendliness.

For me, iPhone. Purely because I believe that every other fucking phone on the market (Including Android phones) are a step down from the iPhone, yet still trying to be an iPhone.

I do like the Androids, I just feel that a top spec Android phone ain't got shit on an iPhone 4, especially if it's Jailbroken. Also, there's a far wider community out there for iPhone's, for modding the software etc.

Call me a fanboy if you want but I'm gonna stick to my guns in the everlasting 'Phone war'

Android, because it's just not from the cult of Apple

I have to give Apple credit for it's creative design and advertising and such but as a general product I wouldn't touch such a closed product. Apple may have 350k apps but google isn't that far behind (250k) and they even came out the gate later.

Yea man we are all techies here and you just completely misquoted me.

You conveniently left out the part of my post where I said:

"Iphone for now. It is more accessible and has a better app selection. But Android will probably be better in the future."

I didn't misquote, I simply left out the part of your post that I didn't take issue with. My response was entirely aimed at the 'Android wins because the Escapist hates Apple' part of your post and anything after that was simply my contribution tot he topic.

See we have these things called paragraphs. We use them to seperate bits of information that might not be relevant to each other.

Hey man it's just a thread, let's keep this polite. No need to patronize someone over a difference of opinions.

And my statement was more about contrarians (since I already reiterated that I am a "techie" as well), rather than The Escapist. I obviously love this site and am an active member of the community (since I'm posting).

Also, concerning your statement about paragraphs they separate new ideas, not "bits of information" based on relevance. Paragraphs are used to separate individual aspects and details that all support the same larger concept.

Grow up
Well, thanks for your remarks. It was simple social commentary that you decided to take offence to before dishing out personal insults - that's always nice to see. Oh, and then it was topped off with a hypocritical 'grow up.' To paraphrase the film Casino Royale: why is it those that can't take advice always insist on giving it?

Well, if Picard uses one...

Seriously though, I don't have a cellphone. I do fancy an iPhone but... Whatever.
I love how they've got those fancy little communicators they use to ask to be beamed up and all that, but Data still has a rotary-dial phone in his chest cavity :p

On topic, I'd say I have no flipping clue, because I use LG EnV3.
