I've been very angry lately. No particular reason why, I've just been very, very angry lately. And I was curious, is it better (healthier) to express anger publicly or privately?

Normally, I would just vent in private, playing brutal video games, listening to screamo metal, stuff like that. But, I began to think, what if I went a little overboard? What if I seriously injured myself or did something stupid and there was no one around to help me? Maybe I should go out and let my anger out where other people are?

And no, I don't mean by going out and screaming at people like an idiot, getting drunk and beating your girlfriend and getting arrested. I mean by going out and doing something, like skiing, bowling, going out to the arcade, anything that would help you vent your anger out in public.

Which one is healthier? Private anger management or public anger management?

Discuss, share your thoughts, and get me that damn medal (just kidding).

EDIT: Added a "both" option, seeing as it seems to get a lot of support. But, I still wanted to know, mainly, which people think is better.

Probably a good combination of both would be best.

Just don't do what I do and punch walls. Hurts the knuckles and scares the cats. >.<

Personally, this isn't a 'mommy-never-hugged-me' thing, or a 'fear-of-commitment' thing, but I have always felt like its better to express anger, sadness, basically everything except happiness in private.

Happy = okay!
Everything else = try not to...

I would say privately. Mainly because once you start venting it, it ain't easy to stop, meaning it could result in unwanted confrontations.

I support the 'public' option, but make sure it is something you are good at. It can be pretty(extremely) annoying when you are already pissed off about nothing in particuar, then you go out bowling without the lane rails, and get nothing but gutter balls for three games strait, especially if your opponent gets constant strikes and spares.

so do something you know, and make sure you have some friends who are willing to take a dive to make you feel less angry.

Just doing what you enjoy. You'd be surprised what some people do to help them get rid of anger.

If you are angry and haven't the foggiest why. You probably need a psychiatrist.

Hahaha. Probably. But I want to save that for when I finally start thinking it's okay for me to kill my ex for making me think she loved me for 2 1/2 years.

Its true XD I am so domestic, I clean whenever I want to avoid confrontation, but I hate children. I am the most un-maternal person ever...I could never raise kids, and I would probably train them to be angry in private anyways.

I would prefer someone being a complete raving, screaming, cursing (nonviolent) flaming asshole in public than a quiet, calm, polite psychotic murder ascending to the top of a clock tower.

Channel it. When i'm angry, I ride my bike until my legs hurt too much to continue. Or write something, fuel the anger into something else and let it flow out of you. Don't try to let it ebb, don't trivialise the feelings or attempt to cope alone, even if you aren't into public outlet then sure as shit make sure you do something epic in private.

If I don't ride, I sing, or swim, or go out with friends and accost strangers with challenges to rap battles.

In that case, you should probably get some exercise or talk it out with someone you trust.
