Light was committing murder, sure, but it seemed that L was trying to catch him solely based on the fact that he's breaking the law, without looking at the morality of his actions.

Cop killing doesn't bug you? It seems particulary hypocritical of light, the son of a police officer, to be able to kill cops left and right like he does. Or to Tolerate Misa doing it, for that matter. He even becomes a police officer later on, but apparently doesn't mind fraticide as long as it benefits him.

Or L. Lind Taylor for calling him "Evil". Exactly how was his Murder justified again? Light's feelings got hurt?

Or Noami, because she managed to figure out something the police would have eventually figured out anyway?

Or "The Voice of Kira", Ms. Takada? Holy crap, what a horrible way to die.

I mean, he nearly kills his Sister later in the series(to prevent her from being used as a hostage) and only holds off because "nobody knows about this but us. I'd get caught".

He's serving his God Complex, not Justice.

Okay, yes, those people didn't deserve to die. But I don't think he was doing it just for his own safety. He was probably the only person out there who could use the notebook that way, and stay smart about it. If he'd been caught by or because of any of those people he had killed, there would have been no one to clean the world of it's criminals. So sure, it may have, in part, been due to his god complex, but he can't keep creating a better world if he's caught. Those killings weren't quite justified, but they were at least understandable. A necessary evil, if you will.

Lind Taylor is a bit harder to explain. That was probably the closest I've come to disagreeing with one of his killings. But, really, it could have easily been to show the world that the rules wouldn't be the same under Kira's rule.

In the world we live in now, the authorities exist to keep the peace and order, not to uphold moral rights. Under Kira's rule, both order and morality would be enforced. And disagreeing with what is morally right in Kira's world would be just as bad as committing crimes in the real world. A bit totalitarian, but not quite out of line.

I prefer L. In the beginning I could kind of get on board with what Light was trying to do, in eradicating criminals but when he killed the decoy L, Lind L Tailor, because he called Kira "evil" and said that he would try and catch him, it started a slippery slope for Light for me. He would use and abuse people such as Misa for his own gains and the way he disposed of Rem. It became less of trying to eradicate and discourage criminals to an outright god complex. But really made me dislike Light was this particular scene:

I mean, L is dead already, the least he could have done is to give him the respect he deserves as he did match wits with Light quite well and they did work well together at some point.

(I do find it a bit odd that I seem to have gotten worked up over two fictional characters)

I think I'll have to go with Ryuk on this one.

Those apples are indeed, juicy.

Seconded. Because lets face it an episode without Ryuk was dull.

Pfft to morality.

I would probably follow the same path as Light, but I'd just shoot L myself rather than trying to DN him.
