I prefer subbed, but it won't be a dealbreaker unless I find out that the dubs are complete crap. Some of my favorites like Ranma 1/2 (and other Viz Video titles) seem to do dubbing fine, but when it comes to ones like Lupin the 3rd, the disconnect between the dubbed translation and the subbed translation is too much to tolerate. Also, the over the top expressions and emotions of anime come through better with Japanese voices as opposed to English voices (a VERY true fact with Final Fantasy XIII)

Subs, cause most times i hate the dub voice actors more than the originals, and it also helps me cause it improves my japanese :D

on a side note, porn is always the best first step to learn a new language.... or so i've heard *inconspicuous face*

Both. Dubs arent all bad, its just the fucking weeaboos who constantly whine about them and don't even bother to give them a chance. For all we know the japanese voice acting could be considered bad but seeing as its not a language thats native to us we probably can't tell the difference.
This.

I usually go dubbed first, then if it hurts my ears, I switch to subbed. Sometimes dubbing really adds quality to the show, such as Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Zone of the Enders, and others. Sometimes it hurts an otherwise good show, like Genshiken (which to this day I can only watch subbed).

Some shows, like .hack//roots, are actually boring to watch as subbed but somehow more lively as dubbed.

somebody put the dubbed death note in this thread.

You know the actual Japanese isn't that much better, right? The dub script kept very close to the sub.

Either is fine with me, it is not a big deal to me of there is a dub or not. I have watched a some of the earlier One Piece episodes after Funimation did their own dub for it and it was at least 1000x better than the 4kids one. Plus they actually had Sanji smoking and there were real guns unlike that bullshit pellet guns idea 4kids had.

I perfer subs, but dubs work for me too.

For instance: I watch Fullmetal Alchemist with the English dubs, but I watch Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood with subs.

This, 100x this.

I prefer dubbed if it's a good dub. It's why I enjoy watching Naruto Shippuden on Disney XD. However, there are certain shows that I know will never come to America, such as most Kamen Riders, and Super Sentai.

It really depends on the anime. Some dubs are actually all right to listen to, and I always prefer to actually hear something in my own language.

For animes where the dub is so bad, subs are the way to go.

Subbed.

Only anime I've watched dubbed where I liked the dub are Pokemon, Digimon and Yu-Gi-Oh!.

Subbed regardless of what medium. I prefer to watch things in their original form as they were intended.

sometimes Dubbed removes phrases and stuff, they think will be strange out of japan,
In FF7:AC they remove all references to tiffa's bar, they just say "I'm going to tiffa's"
hmmm, I wonder what other shows cut words out for the dubbed version...

Good dubs. I like watching a show more than reading it. That said, I'll take a sub over a poor dub any day.

I can watch some dubbed, such as Bleach or even Death Note, but it has to be dubbed with others like Seitokai No Ichizon and Haruhi Suzumiya. Don't know why, I guess Aka-chan just doesnt sound right breaking out into a rant in English

Subbed. I find that the dubbed ones usually don't carry over the emotion of the character. There are a few that I like dubbed, but its usually subbed for me. Plus, I've picked up some of the Japanese language, which I love.

Same for movies. I love watching foreign movies in their native language.
