I used to hate anime because 4kids killed me when I was young.
My friend just forced me to watch some last Saturday.
I am now addicted. Fooly Cooly is epic I watched every episode in a row, he also showed my Paprika which made me trip ballz.
Next in line is Tri-gun then perhaps Witch Hunter Robin.
You could say that I borrow it all.

For TV series, I stream off wherever. For movies, I use my Netflix subscription. This is subject to change as the popularity of Blu-Ray increases.

I prefer to stream it. It's free and legal... mostly.

If I REALLY enjoy the series, I'll get the box set.

I watch streams. If I had a job and if DVD box sets are priced reasonably, then I'd buy the stuff. I have half a mind of flying to Japan just to get some of the image song albums (or the orchestrated Haruhi Suzumiya concert). If I wasn't poor, then I'd be completely willing to support them for real.

Fact is, the Japanese don't care whether or not we Americans pay for their product. I know it sounds strange, but most of the money from American sales goes to the people selling it, not the people that made it. Not to mention it doesn't affect their thinking as to whether or not the anime should be taken to American audiences. Especially for the anime that wasn't taken over the America (not to mention the fact that English dubs usually suck), the easiest thing to do is just download it.

While we're at it, watch Clannad and its sequel series, After Story. I guarantee you will cry. Absolutely guarantee.
Oh HECK YES. Clannad A.S made me cry minumum 4 times. And I am a 360 fps playing, airsofting, murder-simulator-loving gamer who's seen real people die multiple times. Clannad after story is the SHOW.

Crap that show's awesome, but I had to use wiki for the last episode.

Ditto, but it made sense once I found out how the ending worked in the original visual novel. They actually managed to get both possible endings into the anime: really impressive, actually, despite the resulting confusion.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, you mistake me as a person who believes what I am doing is right. I know I am stealing. I know I am a thief. I know that I am taking food out of the mouths of the creators, but the thing is that I don't really care that much. I am a bad man.

*snipt*

I am not defending my actions in this thread, I'm merely condemning my fellows bad men/women who consider themselves above me, and at the same time suggesting that if anime translators want to profit from my/our evil ways, they need to adapt to me, because I represent their market. (or at least a large portion of it) The producers must adapt to the demands of the market, or at least they should if they want to make money.
You are a bad man. Doubly so because you know damn well there are legal ways to get anime without paying for it, but you still pirate. In other words, you go out of your way to steal it, which is--forgive me for saying it, but I gotta call it like it is--a total dick move. Why is that?

I only stream from sponsored sites like Crunchyroll, so yes, I do think I'm above you. Plus, how are the producers supposed to "adapt" to you when you've already made it clear that you're going to steal their product no matter what they do? What possible incentive is there for them to try to please you?

what if you live somewhere backwards with only a couple stores and none carry what you like? Thats my Dilemma lol.
eBay that sucker!
Do you realise how expensive shipping costs can be for some countries? Youll have to really buy a huge bulk just to justify the purchase and i reckon most ppl would need alot of time to collect the cash anyway. I personaly get my anime for free mostly cuz there were no dvds in my country also cuz before i couldnt afford it. After i came to australia my finance actualy allows me to buy stuff but im not watching anything at the moment. I think only thing i would bother downloading is One Piece cuz its my favorite.
I just prefer manga before anime. Animes usualy cut stuff and change some stories which always makes me angry.
And its very relaxing to sit back in the sofa and have some quality time with a book (even if its a manga).
but ye you cant always blame people for downloading for free. Most people cant afford or if they do buy some stuff they simply cannot meet all their needs. What if you watch like 50 on-going animes. . . cmon thats some serious buck even for the high australian standards!!
i know hardcore anime fans who have TBs of anime on their PCs . . . .i cant even imagine how much money would all that cost if they actualy had to pay for it.

To sum it all in my experiance everybody who can affod it and is a fan of some kind of a franchise will go and buy it cuz its more enjoyable.
And if some nations live in an 500$ average monthly salary pray tell how will they aford to buy couple of their favourite anime seasons on dvds and keep in mind that the prices are the same!
Well, if you want the manga for free as well, you can read scans of it at http://www.onemanga.com/

I hardly ever watch anime, but when I do, its the kind that isn't on TV so I have to watch it online.

I don't mean Hentai, just mature rated anime like Gantz or Black Lagoon.

I pirate it like a ************, and if I like it I buy it as I love to have hard copies of things I like. And if I don't like it, I delete it.

For me pirating is just reviewing, essentially. I am on an extremely limited budget, and I can't waste it on things that are mediocre.

Any movie I am desperate enough to download the cam version of, I am going to go see in the cinema, and eventually buy the DVD. I buy the hardcopies of the comics I get too.

Manga I generally don't buy hard copies of, because so many of the English translations are seriously censored. Unless I've seen that it's a proper translated, comparable with the fan translations, I don't buy it.

I would love to actually buy all the music and Animé that I like. The problem is there's a TON of Japanese rock / pop that I listen to and living in the UK it's pretty impossible to find a store that even stocks a learn Japanese CD, let alone music. Online it'll cost me an arm and a leg to get a single CD shipped from Japan, not to mention I have to go through Japanese websites (which I won't be able to read or understand) So, unfortunately, I have to download them.
What groups are you into? I know of a couple different import sites in English that ship to the UK (I'm pretty sure--I'll have to check), but let me know what you want.

I used to buy it off a site that got closed down, apparently they were making "authentic pirates" of animes. Honestly I didn't care since my options were-

$49USD for 9 episodes of Outlaw Star
or
$29USD for the whole show in a nice box.

I only checked the first three, but this site does carry all three, so feel free to have a look:

http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/wa_style/index.html?spid=102&utm_source=ad_site&utm_medium=adlink&utm_content=genral&utm_campaign=japanshop

I'll warn you, I've never ordered from this site before; but they do ship to Europe, and they accept all the major credit cards plus PayPal. Also, the prices are all in US dollars, so you'll have to convert to sterling yourself (but you're probbaly used to that by now), but the prices look fairly reasonable for international shipping. If you do order from here, let me know how it goes.

I watch Adult Swim on Saturday nights, but that is really no way to watch anime. If I actually WATCH something, I go to Hulu.
