"I don't like anime.
I like...."
Drat, I can't remember the rest of it, but it was some well-written OP that kinda captured my sentiment on this topic. Let me dig it up...

Edit:Can't find it. Proceeding with post, then.

Generally, I'm less than fond of the typical elements that constitute anime; Unless I'm bored, I won't default to watching anime just 'cause its anime. I don't let this be a bias when I'm watching more unusual series/OVAs, though- I enjoyed Serial Experiment Lain, .hack//SIGN. I do also have a soft spot for some of the classics of the generic categories, like Tenchi.
I don't hesitate to point out that there's a lot of rubbish anime out there, but I don't go around insulting things like Full Metal Alchemist just because it doesn't appeal to me. If its a quality product, then I'll give it some respect.

My problem with Japanime is that 95% of it falls somewhere between Bizarre Jelly 5 and Princess Robot Bubblegum.
Also; why do Japanese cartoons get their own special name, but cartoons from other countries don't?

I like SOME anime. I love Miyazaki. I love almost anything that Studio Ghibli comes out with, especially 'Grave of the Fireflies' which is the only movie to make me sob like a baby.

One word: Bleeeeeeeerghhhhhh.

I mean, there are not that many western cartoons i like nowadays, and anime is just... bleeeeeeeerghhhhh. For one reason or other.

One day, i may change my mind - or not.

I think your question is a bit odd. I think you will have a very hard time coming across people who like anime indiscriminately. People tend to like specific anime series, rather than just blindly loving the whole thing.

To make an analogy I could ask if you liked Live Action TV. There are so many different types and genres within the media form. Do you like all TV?

This post is a jumbled mess.

I love it Personally and its pretty much the only form of television I watch anymore.
My favorite has to be Code Geass. Death Note is a close second but I lost interest in the show after
L dies really why? he was the best!

in a unrelated issue don't you think the title is a little short I was skeptical this would turn out well when all I saw was "Anime"

I still maintain that VampireHunter D: Bloodlust is the best animated film I've seen. I have a few dvds of things I like, but watching shows like Death Note really put me off.

I can honestly go either way on the issue, so I suppose I'm indifferent one way or the other.

What the Escapist thinks of anime? There are two possible responses.

You'll get people saying "90% of it is shit, I hate it."

Then you'll get people saying "10% of it is good, I love it, here's some of my favorite shows."

I'm in the latter category.

It's been my experience that most people who hate anime only know it casually through things like Naruto and Pokemon and not shows that are *gasp* actually good, like Cowboy Bebop or Mushi-Shi. God knows that there's a lot of crappy anime out there, but I suppose an open mind is a little too much to hope for.

It all depends on the anime in question. Anime like Fist of the North Star(TV series), Witchblade,The Sea Prince and the Firechild,Princess Mononke and Grave of the Fireflies are some of my favorite bits of animation from any country while anime such as Nurse Witch Komugi and UFO Ultra Maiden Valkyrie disappoint me with their wasted potential (an anime about a space valkyrie who would collect souls of people who died in space battles would have been a great idea. Too bad it's just a magical girlfriend show set in a bathhouse. The same goes for a show revolving around a super nurse rather than some cosplay idol.)and Colorful is one of the bits of fiction that I despise most in this world next to the likes of the Turner Diaries and The Birth of a Nation.
