What do you think of the hacker group Anonymous? Do you agree with their work, or do you think they cause more harm than good?

Anonymous is everyone, so the question should really be are people good or bad if you want to limit things to black and white. Personally I think its all shades of grey, good for some, bad for others, and is dependent on the individual/group of anons concerned.

Depends on what they're doing. If they would do stuff like attacking the systems of dictators or the taliban, they would be good, but it looks like they don't realize that.

For those who are too lazy to go to Wikipedia and look for it, Anonymous is:
Anonymous (used as a mass noun) is an Internet meme originating 2003 on the imageboard 4chan, representing the concept of many online community users simultaneously existing as an anarchic, digitized global brain. It is also generally considered to be a blanket term for members of certain Internet subcultures, a way to refer to the actions of people in an environment where their actual identities are not known.

In its early form, the concept has been adopted by a decentralized on-line community acting anonymously in a coordinated manner, usually toward a loosely self-agreed goal, and primarily focused on entertainment. Beginning with 2008, the Anonymous collective has become increasingly associated with collaborative, international hacktivism, undertaking protests and other actions, often with the goal of promoting internet freedom and freedom of speech. Actions credited to "Anonymous" are undertaken by unidentified individuals who apply the Anonymous label to themselves as attribution.

Although not necessarily tied to a single on-line entity, many websites are strongly associated with Anonymous. This includes notable imageboards such as 4chan, Futaba, their associated wikis, Encyclopædia Dramatica, and a number of forums.[5] After a series of controversial, widely-publicized protests and distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks by Anonymous in 2008, incidents linked to its cadre members have increased.[6] In consideration of its capabilities, Anonymous has been posited by CNN to be one of the three major successors to WikiLeaks.

Just to clarify, I'm talking about the hacker group, not the concept on anonymity in general.

We need a third option, because they have their own agenda, some of which is good, and some bad.

Anon - Online terrorists or Web based freedom fighters would be a more accurate question I think. In the end, what they do is good... so far. I'm always dubious though, lets face it any organisation as motivated and single minded as they are is always prone to corruption.

Every organization is corrupted...

I say yes to them. Every one, every where should remain anonymous.

They're stupid, started as a joke and they would annoy people. turned into some tunnel vision semi-political crap, and most of them aren't hackers. There's so much stupid irony in what they do it's not even funny, I mean they have a Facebook page... ANONYMOUS has a FACEBOOK page. I don't think you can get more ironic than that.

Anonymous isn't either. Anon is true chaotic neutral. Anon doesn't do things because they're right or because they're wrong. Anon does things for the lulz. When not directly creating lulz, Anon is removing obstacles in the way of creating more pure, uncensored lulz. That is all.

They are not good or evil, they are nothing. They have the illusion they're making a change, but do you really thing the big companies really care if their site goes down for a little while? I doubt it.

Anonymous isnt a united force, some want good, some want to cause chaos and others will do what they can for their own benefit. I support Anonymous for the majority so long as they dont cause any major harm to people that dont deserve it.

wow... just wow... this thread? not sure if serious. Anonymous never really did anything worth noting, they are not some big evil or what ever you seem to make them out to be. They dont exist. All they ever did as "Anonymous" was fight scientology and do some angsty protest across the streets of scientology churches... you make them out to be hackers on steriods, which they just arn't. Anonymous doesnt even exist at all anymore, they havnt for years, they are not active in any kind of way anymore.
