Ironically my worst experience was on Versus mode. Some guy got on Versus and started blowing into his microphone and calling lots of votes so that we could prevent vote-kicking him. VERSUS MODE WAS MADE FOR GRIEFERS! Why Grief on versus FFS?!

Switch from "Dedicated" to "Local Server" at the start, so you can play right away (You host the server, though).

I had one guy yell at me for seperating from the group, when the only reason why I back tracked what to save his lame ass friend who he was split screening with. How do you end up ditching your roomate that you're on split screen with?

As for people complaining on Left 4 Dead, consider it par for the course. I almost play just for the bizarre social dynamic and spazzouts of the insane Xbox 360 players, laughing the whole time. It's a zombie invasion game with an AI that ramps up to work against you... it's freaking designed to push things to their limit and stress you out.

Well done Valve.

Worst team I've had were just two guys dicking around, and killing each-other. I've found that most people I've played with are very friendly.
I had that too, although it was just the one person TK'ing everyone else. Another issue I had was being kicked for no discernable reason. L4D does seem to have a largely friendly community though, Ive only heard one whiny American teen since it was released - a record for XBL surely?

I was sniping zombies with the hunting rifle and then one of my teammates pushes me just as i was pulling the trigger. Guess what I shot...A PROPANE TANK. Two of us were incapacitated and the player zombies saw this as the perfect time to strike so lets just say we were all dead in about 40 seconds.

Stop pushing people damn it!

I've generally had good luck with my random matches, though granted the bouts with actual friends are the most fun.

I've been vote kicked for being the last survivor, but it was partially my fault. The idiots startled the witch, got vomited on, made the car alarm go off, and decided to try and kill them all instead of running like hell. So reacting to their extreme stupidity, I said "To hell with this!" and made a run for the safe room, where I chilled while the retards got their just desserts (and the zombies had dessert). Funny thing was, I tried to get another random server and wound up getting linked to the opposite side of the same game. Needless to say I made sure they wet their pants with all the pouncing I did. That and pulling them over to the witch as the smoker. That never gets old.

Other than that, I've had a pretty good run on both XBL and Steam. Must be my luck.

People who wander off on their own.

Then scream like hell when a Smoker, Tank or Hunter jumps them and they're miles from anyone. The usual response to people who do this is to calmy ignore them and continue the mission.

Three guns that work is no different from three guns that work and one that works but doesn't help.

Wow...someone has one hell of an ego problem.

A natural problem that ALL online games will have (no exceptions, yes, I am looking at you Mr. Smug-PC-gamer-twat) is that you are going to encounter a) people who are not very good at a given game b) self important 'hardcore' players who believe that they must win at all costs and that 'it's not a game, it's a way of life' and finally, c) annoying, immature (sometimes racist) and thick-headed players who believe that it is their personal duty to ruin everyone else's fun and enjoyment.

It's not just on Xbox Live either.

Beginning of the game, they all run on ahead, i am just about to follow (I was the only one who got a med kit) and what do you know, i get taken by a hunter and die within 10-20 seconds of the game.
Woop-dee-doo.

Retards.

These are the reasons why I refuse to play L4D online. I love that game to bits and pieces, and it's super-fun to play it with my brother and my friends, but everybody knows 90% of online gamers are really obnoxious. I don't want a bunch of arsehats ruining a multi-player zombie apocalypse game for me.

I also have to say that, as a relative amateur L4D player, online play would not appeal to me. I'm just not as good as some people are, and I don't want that to ruin my experience or anybody else's.

Honestly, I don't know how I've managed to play level 80+ characters on Diablo II for so many years with people constantly squawking, "FREE? FREE? FREE?" at me.

not an ego problem, i was using the term newb as a broader scope for the immature and somewhat childish way people act online.

When my team in vs mode decided to camp the spawn room so they could "clear the first part in complete safety".

yeah good work retards, totally ignore the fact that this is vs mode for one, and that zombies get spawned by the AI director. So after a while I convince them that you have to keep moving in vs mode to avoid having to fight boss infected every 20 seconds without gaining any ground, and I keep pushing them along a bit at a time. Until they decide to all go for medpacks which are at the START of the level, and it was the train station level, so they can't get up the hole to begin with.

One person thinking you could do that, I can understand, but 3 of them at once? What kind of sick luck is that?

So despite being 20 metres away from them they decide to run off, I get smokered and pounced at once, I die. Needless to say they didn't last long.

I didn't feel like helping my team win, so I actually managed to get the opposition survivors to not kill me as a boomer, and I just ran with them through the level. Setting up a few easy kills by throwing up on them while they put propane and petrol tanks around. :D

In this very same game, the tank spawn was given to one of the retards, and he began attacking from that room above the minigun, the team I was following threw a molotov, lit him on fire, so the dumbass decided to leg it to safety, and HID in a room, Ignoring my team and eventually dying. The team runs past, on the way killing the other 2 boss infected on my team who were standing next to each other on a car, just hitting each other.

Weirdest game I've ever been in by a long shot.

I'm just glad that when the real zombie apocalypse comes, these people are going to die in the first 15 minutes.

I haven't really had any horror stories with any other players. I mean, I play with dolts every now and again, but other than that, the quality of players is pretty good.

Worst was a guy who was just continually friendly firing, on expert mode no less. But generally the "Kick Vote" takes care of that problem.

Worst one I had was in versus, about half way through the campaign. And it was retardedly dire.

Them: "Hey, you're Bill! I wanted to be Bill" Dakka-dakka!
Me: *Votes to kick*

Firstly, I don't think that repetion for effect improves the validity of your arguement in any way.

Secondly, when did I state that I was 'holier' (and I also believe that you mixed up the phrases 'come off your high-horse' and 'holier than thou') or otherwise better than anyone else (when, ironically, your initial statement was a complaint that everyone seemed to be less skillful than you).

Thirdly, I have not attempted to imitate Yahtzee (please highlight where I have emulated him). Many people acknowledge that a large number of people online are arseholes (it's not an opinion that's unique to any one person), I'm not trying to pass myself off as the next Yahtzee Benjamin Croshaw.

Finally, I was very specific about PC gamers in particular since they tend to view themselves as being superior to console gamers.
