Hi escapist, after the huge release kerfuffle of 2011, ie shit loads of games coming out at the same time, I've become so strung inbetween last years releases and what 2012 has to offer, and i don't know what I should devote my "want" to. what games I should be focusing on. So please help me out.

tl:dr I'm wanting people to sum up this year's games

1. What were your favorite games of Christmas season 2011?

2. What have been some good releases so far in January?

3 Which games are you looking forward to in 2012?

Thanks Escapist.

1- Christmas season..? Hmm... Well, the last game I bought last year was Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3, so I'll go with that.

2- None.

3- Syndicate, Aliens: Colonial Marines, X-Com: Enemy Unknown, Darksiders II, The Last of Us, The Last Guardian (COME ON, MAN!!!). Maybe a couple of others.

1: Driver SF: Surprisingly good. Has both racing AND smashing stuff up, whats not to love? :D
- Call of duty 2: People said it was the best COD campaign, they were right. Its sad what it has turned into after that game.

2: Nothing has really come out yet....

3: Syndicate (demo was fun)
- kingdoms of amalur (demo was fun)
- bioshock infinite (!!!!!)
- metal gear HD collection (Not out yet in my country :/ its on the way in the post though!), - Silent hill HD collection/ downpour (Never got to play SH3 and im curious to see what they have done to the series with the new one :/)
- Rainbow six patriots (Rainbow six is the shiz :D)
- Darkness 2 (demo was fun)
- Aliens colonial marines (Have they made it good?)

Not saying im rushing out to buy all of these, interested in seeing how they turn out though.

1. I didn't get anything, sadly.

2. Still haven't gotten anything.

3. Only the Syndicate reboot, and unless I upgrade my RAM I can't get it.

Was. Once. Rogue Spear was the last GREAT R6 game.

Give us back our tactical options, and we'll talk.

The only brand new, 2011 games that I picked up during this past Christmas season were Skyrim, Zelda, and Halo Anniversary. Of those, Skyrim has probably been the one I've had the most fun with, although that doesn't make it a favorite game of mine.

The only January release I've picked up is FFXIII-2, which I haven't had a chance to play yet, so I can't really give any opinion on January releases.

Games I'm looking forward to/ anticipating: Mass Effect 3, The Last of Us, and The Secret World.

Meh, before rainbow six before vegas the games just seemed too clunky for a shooting/ tactics game. It was impossible to quickly respond to things going wrong for me.

Vegas progressed it nicel i think :)

- I press a button, and they go over there and take cover without me having to baby them. And i can still set them to be hostile/ leave things aline unless shot at. Having the orders context sensitive was a LOT quicker than slogging through menus - If i point at a door Of COURSE i want them to do something with it. And they ALWAYS "stack up" at doors, waiting for my next order rather than having to input a special order for that. It just worked better for me.

- However this is as far as i want the simpleness to go. The way things have been with other sequals, i am worried.

I dunno... everyone hailed Vegas as the ressurection of R6 after a few flops, but I was unimpressed. It felt like Baby's First Rainbow Six. :p

Fanboy Toombs is excited for Mass Effect. Toombs is also looking forward to finding out how good Bioshock: Infinite will be.

I'm gonna be loading up on strategy games. I've got some demos downloaded in Steam, so my final verdict will probably decide on those. Also, some tactical shooters and Dear Esther.

[small]Also a lot of the other games everyone's excited about.[/small]

1. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Super Mario 3D Land, Sonic Generations, and Star Wars: The Old Republic are all awesome games that came out at least somewhat around Christmas.

2. Final Fantasy XIII-2 in the realm of paid games, and Katawa Shoujo in the realm of free games.

3. MASS EFFECT 3! Also Animal Crossing 3D and (hopefully) Paper Mario 3D.
