As a few others in this thread have said, it doesn't really phase me. I don't feel entitled or obligated to enjoy any of their games and there are a ton of great games out there to pass the time. They release games on their own time.

I'm ok with that. I'm a patient guy.

I'm annoyed at the cliffhanger they left us hanging on, but aside from that they've been putting out enough quality stuff for me to not really care.

I don't really care. I pay attention to developers when they announce that they're making something I like - I'm not gonna watch a group not announce anything and get worked up about it. If/when ep 3 comes out, I'm sure it'll be great.

I actually got a rather interesting perspective on this issue, when I talked to my little brother about Valve (or rather games in general).
See, for him, Valve is the company that has published an awesome game almost every single year (since he started playing pc-games, which was around 2007-ish) and Half-Life is probably the IP he is least invested in.
So I guess Valve could just sit this one out ?
I mean Gabe is obviously the immortal Chaos God of Gluttony anyway, so*EPISODE 3 DELAYED*
Well shit.

I don't really mind that much. They are the developer and can do what they want for the most part and to be honest I have never really cared much about their games :S and I have been disappointed by many other games so I no longer look forward to much or get angry when stuff isn't released sooner.

They can take as long as they like. I'm not totally psyched for Episode 3, as I wasn't super impressed with Episode 2. I'd much prefer a Half Life 3 with a shiny new graphics engine.
I agree with you there, brotha'

It should be longer, about 30 hours of gameplay, no multi and tons of cool achievements :D

And the shiny new graphics too, although not too much mud graphics please.

I'd rather be pissed off with a developer for making me wait for a decent game than be pissed off with them because they release increasingly mediocre games every few years. That is exactly why music rhythm games 'mysteriously' stopped selling after a few years of solid sales.

It is pretty annoying that they are taking so long with Half Life 2, but you have to remember that they have had a few titles in development that they didn't rush. Portal 2 was a decent game and would have taken up a lot of man hours, DOTA2 then took over and they probably have some other stuff in the works. Plus they are constantly updating TF2, working on Steam, battling against Microsoft to try and get Steamworks on XBL and eating a whole bunch of snacks.

I'd rather they stick with a formula that results in decent games every now and then rather than devolving into a festering pit of despair like Activision.

Valve isn't structured like a normal developer, nor do they pick their projects like one.

It'll be out when its out. For all we know they haven't even started on HL3 yet (a few hints have been dropped that it won't be Episode 3, or if it is it'll be in name only, I imagine).

And to people saying you won't buy their game because they "took too long": grow up.

You dare question the great Gabe and Valve?! Such insolence!

OT: Actully...No, I have TF2 that distracts me enough from the long developing times. And other games.

Yep, I am. But thankfully I never adored Valve like they do here.

No FPS is worth this long a wait. Alyx wasn't THAT wonderful of a character, and neither was anyone in that world.

I'm a Zelda fanboy and if you told me I had to wait 4-5+ years for Twilight Princess, I wouldn't happily say "It was worth it." I'll enjoy it on its merits, but I'll always feel like "Really? 5 years for an empty overworld and no sidemissions outside the usual collectathons?"

Hell, I waited 3 years for Twilight Princess and I was like "3 years for this?"

I'd rather have valve time than EA/Activision/ubisoft's "spew out a new version as fast as possible" model. It's just obnoxious.

Not really. I tend to think of them more in terms of a publisher/retailer than a developer anyway, what with Steam and all. Besides, I'm probably the the only person in the PC establishment who didn't like Half-Life all that much, so I'm not exactly strung out over a sequel.

you know, if people keep complaining so badly about how long you have to wait for a game, by the time you get it, bias will ruin the experience for you....

I could care less about episode 3 because I've never played Half-life 2.

I play TF2 and Left 4 Dead, that's all I need from Valve.
Well, don't you think you should at least try Half-Life 2? It's not really all that expensive anymore, and 40 hours of solid gameplay definitely make the purchase worth it.

Oh, and by the way, it's "couldn't care less". You're welcome :)
Yeah lol my bad. I was tired.

I haven't played HL2 yet mainly because I haven't gotten around to it yet. I have a limited budget, and only got TF2 when it went F2P.

I have yet to play a Valve game that did not impress me in some way.

If waiting means that this trend will continue, I am happy to continue to wait.

I can only guess they're actually working on something new for Half Life. Episode 3? Half Life 3?

Really, I'm not particularly antsy. I can wait. Though, that's really all I have to look forward to from Valve at this point. TF2 doesn't do much for me... whatever I loved about TFC is no longer present. I found L4D2 pretty un-exciting, bordering on tedious. I've always disliked Counter Strike, so this new one doesn't appeal to me at all. Portal 2 was brilliant, though I don't see a third one coming along any time soon.

So, whatever. Valve, do your thing with Half Life. I'll buy it when it's ready. Until then, I'll be playing Deus Ex, Mass Effect 3, Diablo 3, and maybe Skyrim (when the latter three are released).
