Yeah I hate him too. He plays the same character, over and over. And it happens to be that the character he plays is fucking annoying.

He seems like a really boring individual. Which for me carried on to his acting in the films of his I've seen. Also, if a film poster has the movie name doodle'd on it...you bet your ass he is in that movie.

I'm fine with him. There are far worse actors and actresses to ***** about. Plus he's a great fit for the part of Scott Pilgrim and that film will be perfect so he'll earn some acting cred there.
Love your avatar! GIGA DRILL BREAK!!!!!!!

I agree as well, Cera surprisingly fits Scott Pilgrim for what I have seen so far. Just I hope he isn't a whiny *****, like he is in all of his movies.

Superbad was ok though..

Yet another movie is coming out where Cera plays an awkward goofy teenager who is trying to score a girl. Seriously?! How many of these movies have to come out? Personally, I hate Michael Cera: no acting talent whatsoever and makes Nickelback look original! Just wondering if it's only me who can't stand him or maybe he has some fans?

EDIT: not saying his new movie looks bad, I'm saying Cera looks bad. I'm sick of the same old goofy, awkward shit he calls "acting."
Actor-hate is so misguided. Blaming the actor for getting the same roles is like blaming a soldier for getting deployed in the same zone and shooting the same gun all the time.

He's not necessarily a bad actor, he's just getting typecast. Not his fault. Actors do all the can to break out of typecasting, but the fact is that casting agents look at your film (in his case, probably Juno) and think "hmmm... we need a shy awkward teenager, look, this guy can do that, let's hire him", so inevitably people get stuck in certain roles. As an actor you can only do the work you're offered, and Cera is probably only ever offered shy teenager roles. He'd probably love to do something different, but no-one is willing to take the risk and put the money down on the idea that he can stretch himself in other directions, because... well, maybe he can, but he's just got that goofy awkward teenagery look, right? So he's going to scoop those kinds of roles until he matures a bit, because he's such a safe bet to play that kind of character, after all he's done it so many times before. A safe bet is always going to appeal to a studio casting agent more than a risk, after all, casting agents have to put food on the table just like anybody else who works for a living.

If you want someone to blame, don't blame Cera. He's just doing what he's being paid to do. Blame the people who keep hiring him to do the same thing over and over.

I do enjoy most of his work, but yes, there's no question he's been very one note in terms of his characters so far. He's very good at what he does but I'm not sure he can convincingly do much else. Of course, there are a large number of actors who play pretty much the same character in every movie they do and they've been doing it for years and years (and decades) now.

Thank you! I totally agree. The first time I saw him, I didn't like him, and then he caught on like wild fire. -_-

So, thank you for finally putting into the words the passive thoughts that drift through my mind every time he's in a new movie. (aka, I've thought the same thing but never really bothered to say it)

He fits with Scott Pilgrim pretty well. He wouldn't have been my first choice, but he seems to do just great in the role. What I don't like is the people that are cashing in on the shtick that works for him (Here's looking at you, kid from Zombieland). From what I've seen of him, he's very much been typecast. I would like to see him do something else at least once though. Bottom line, the people keep demanding him, so the studios are just giving the people what they want.

I like him, and I actually saw him in that TV series he started out in.

But then, I think Nickelback is awesome, so my opinion is probably inherently invalid in this thread anyway.

He's a bad actor, he always plays the same guy, and he doesn't age.

What's to like?

PS: Is there some law that says Michael Cera has to be kicked in the balls before he's aloud to speak? Because that's the only explanation I can think of(that doesn't involve the abuse of estrogen) for his whiny, goat-like voice.

I think he needs to move on from the whole awkward teen role that he normally plays. I used to like him but now I can't stand him.

First time I saw him, I was sick of him.

I just don't like his type of acting but it would be much better if he learned how to play someone other than the shy, awkward teen.

He's got about as much range as Vince Vaughn.
He's a character actor. That's all you can do.

Worked fine for Joe Pesci, Russel Crowe, Jeff Goldblum, and Steve Buscemi.

Cera is just the next one.

Fucking annoying voice though.
While Pesci can be called a character actor, I wouldn't think any of the others are especially Russel Crowe. I may not like the guy too much, but he's not a character actor.

I wouldn't even say Cera is either. He just get's typecast in all the same roles. He still sucks though.

I feel bad saying that but he's just kinda annoying. He was alright in Superbad since that was the first thing I saw him in, but then it was Juno and that really got on my nerves and then everything after that was the same thing.

I don't hate him. He's a decent enough actor. The thing is, he has a tendency to play the same character in every movie. I can tolerate him, but every movie of his is the same movie.

I liked him in Superbad and Juno, but his playing the same role over and over is starting to wear on me. Honestly though, I doubt he could play anything else.

Then again, maybe it's just the roles he gets, because I loved Jesse Eisenberg in Zombieland, and I'm sure that was much more due to the actual content of the film than Eisenberg's acting. Not saying Cera would've been better in his role, just saying he needs more awesome roles, and hopefully Scott Pilgrim can be that role (though the trailer looked pretty bad to me; maybe it's just not my style of movie).

I don't really have any idea of Michael Cera because i don't watch the movies he's usually in.

As a Scott Pilgrim Fan, i am very much looking forward to the movie, although Cera seems to hardly fit (although it might be different in the actual movie, and the fighting scenes with him look great).

I guess i'll check out Youth in Revolt, trailer looks weird enough, maybe i can make up my mind about this guy after that.

EDIT: Oh yeah, unless the story of the comic gets changed in the movie, he scores with the girl pretty fast, and is a guy who "never had trouble getting a girl" anyways, and is not really arkward in a geeky way, but rather a loudmouthed slacker way.

Personally, I have no hatred for Cera boy.

Jonah Hill on the other hand...I hate him with a passion.

So, what? Another lovable fat slob role?

Also, Cera is the only one I know that can looks like he could pulled off scout.
Oh god! Me too! I've hated Jonah Hill since I first saw him in Superbad and he hasn't improved since then. I have no clue why he's popular and he keeps ending up in the stupid frat boy/druggie movies that I personally detest. Ugh.

Cera's okay, I'd like to see him do something other than goofy, awkward teen but at least he's likable. Still, I'd like to know if he's only getting typecast or if he actually has acting talent. That'd be nice.
