Yet another movie is coming out where Cera plays an awkward goofy teenager who is trying to score a girl. Seriously?! How many of these movies have to come out? Personally, I hate Michael Cera: no acting talent whatsoever and makes Nickelback look original! Just wondering if it's only me who can't stand him or maybe he has some fans?
EDIT: not saying his new movie looks bad, I'm saying Cera looks bad. I'm sick of the same old goofy, awkward shit he calls "acting."
Actor-hate is so misguided. Blaming the actor for getting the same roles is like blaming a soldier for getting deployed in the same zone and shooting the same gun all the time.
He's not necessarily a bad actor, he's just getting typecast. Not his fault. Actors do all the can to break out of typecasting, but the fact is that casting agents look at your film (in his case, probably Juno) and think "hmmm... we need a shy awkward teenager, look, this guy can do that, let's hire him", so inevitably people get stuck in certain roles. As an actor you can only do the work you're offered, and Cera is probably only
ever offered shy teenager roles. He'd probably
love to do something different, but no-one is willing to take the risk and put the money down on the idea that he can stretch himself in other directions, because... well,
maybe he can, but he's just got that goofy awkward teenagery look, right? So he's going to scoop those kinds of roles until he matures a bit, because he's such a safe bet to play that kind of character, after all he's done it so many times before. A safe bet is always going to appeal to a studio casting agent more than a risk, after all, casting agents have to put food on the table just like anybody else who works for a living.
If you want someone to blame, don't blame Cera. He's just doing what he's being paid to do. Blame the people who keep hiring him to do the same thing over and over.
