The only beer I drink is a rootbeer float. And believe me, I keep an eye on my drinks. If I ever lost sight of my drink and a guy gave it back to me and offered to toast, I'd have him drink both his and mine, and stand there, watching. If he doesn't, I'd taze him.

This isn't exactly the sort of place I'd go out of my way to visit or anything, but if I was in the area and had a buddy to drink with (or, if the place is really dire, mock with), I'd be willing to see what it's like.

I think its a good idea have some suitably named cocktail (+30 Health strawberry liquor, raspberry liquor and rum)served in a chemistry type bottle. Then chat with a couple of mates whilst waiting for your slot on the game to come up, wave to the guy who beat you on CoD last week and ask for a rematch. then you and your mates sit down for a hour and have a bash at whatever, slightly tipsy. What's not to like? Oh yeah its in Australia and I'm in England.

If you dance at bars then I think you've got the wrong idea of what a bar is for. Similarly, if "binging" and "hitting on women" are your markers for a "good night out" then I don't think you're in his demographic - or that of any establishment that isn't directly chasing the student market.

Personally, I like the concept behind the Mana Bar, but I can't see it working with the model they've currently proposed. Namely, no cover charges, so effectively they are making it first and foremost a bar, with games in it. A better way to blend it would be as a gaming venue, that serves drinks. It's clear which demographic they are chasing (namely those who enjoy gaming), so that should (in my opinion) be the one they focus on, with the bar adding to the social environment of gaming.

But meh, I've had my business plan for a similar (yet different) venture rejected during the height of the economic downturn, and currently building some capital up before reapproaching investors.

I seriously hope not though. Mainly because people who manage to create an international business tend to become rather obnoxious and often lose their sense of connection with their roots (the story of the poor but industrious, cool guy going to rich, but snobby and obnoxious is a pretty common one after all). Yahtzee's already got just right amount of a sardonic flair to still maintain a stand-up and sympathetic personality. I'd hate to see it spoiled by ridiculous amounts of money and greed.

So not that im trying to jinx it, but I'd prefer if the establishment and Yahtzee remained a local celebrity at most. So I don't have to start hating his guts for selling out completely and becoming a faceless, corporate tool like so many others have before him. Even if it means that the idea won't go global and more accessible for me who live on the complete opposite side of the earth of the establishment.

Come to think of it, that's rather selfless of me not bitching about the fact that something I'd like to visit is located so far away, in order to hopefully preserve another mans soul and integrity.

Yes, I can be quite the saint occasionally, I know.

I think it's supposed to be more of a bar than a dance club. more a quiet night with friends dancing very close to strangers and hooking up with someone then barfing in a bin claiming it was the best night you'll ever have before passing out and stumbling home without pants.

The barfing in a bin which you store your beer in, get some beer OUT of the bin, take the cap off and drink the beer with barf, claiming it was the best night you've ever had before passing out with your shoe wedged in your mouth in a toilet. Then waking up with your face covered in piss and trying to stumble home but get hit by a car you thought was a flying pixie fairy cause your blood alcohol level was 0.3

That's much more detailed and much more correct. But of course, that's how we all spend our lives in bar. (Yes, I'm raging at the stereotype that the OP presented; binge drinking is incredibly dangerous, and although I'm not supposed to wish death on anyone, I hope it kills them because they'll be vegetables in 10 years)

Its a brilliant idea. A lot of bars and clubs in my area have a Games room (which are really popular). So Yahtzee clearly made a good buiseness move.

Have we so little originality? I think It's definately worth a shot to say the least, and it's not without precedent, as such clubs already operate overseas...we're just a lil behind is all. I HATE the current nightlife, incessant *DOOF DOOF 'wiki-wiki-wiki'* and dancing and binge drinking, don't care for it one bit. Bars however, I could deal with, and the variety of people this place is likely to bring in will hopefully avoid the doofus-demographic, and you'll probably end up with the most socially relaxed and intelligent atmosphere of any bar/club.

I'm also getting a lil tired of stamping 'IT'S YAHTZEES!' to things. I get it, I like Zero Punctuation too, but give him some peace, or at least, give Yug and the others some credit, Yahtzee isn't the only one involved in creating this bar. I'm sure he's facepalmed more than once over people's obsession with him. He seems like a top bloke, and I wouldn't mind saying hello to him, but I won't worship him

OT: I think it would be a great idea, as in addition to just having a good time, it would be so much easier to find people with similar interests. Also the name is sweet.

For those who don't know the Mana bar is a new bar Yathzee and his friends are developing set to due open in late March. The bar specializes in video games to entertain guests with a variety of drinks too.

Now I personally don't appeal to this kinda idea. To me there are some things that just don't mix. I enjoy video games as much as the next guy but i don't know if you can combine that with nightlife. It just seems they are really trying to add a nerdy feel to this and it just seems kinda weird. Obviously you've never been on a night out then? When ever i go to clubs I don't intend to get drunk but it happens but mainly i got out with my friends and just have a right laugh.

I think it would be good as many gamers are i wouldn't say scared but more shy to going to normal clubs whereas they would feel more comfortable there.

That's just my opinion don't know wether anybody else agree's or not?

There's a dance club near where i live that has a 360 set up in the same room as the dance floor, i've only been once but me and my buddies steered way clear of it even though we all love gaming, for me it really doesn't mix with a club scene.

However it sounds like the Mana bar is more of a pub which could be good especially if its specifically aimed at gamers. I think it needs to be done just right if its to work, hopefully it'll be a success and there will be a Mana bar near me soon.

That's just fine. You can go to dance clubs, and me and all my mates who don't much like going out of an evening for fear of having to share venues with people like you can go to the Mana Bar. Everyone's happy.

Wtf? How would playing CoD on an xbox make it a lan cafe? They've explicitly stated that they'll let you play popular titles before they are released.

Definitely not IMO, I can just see a load of slightly drunken frap-boys on a night out turning up like: "AWESOME, this place has Halo and stuff!"
They would completely destroy any relaxed/civilised atmosphere.

I completely agree here though. I feel quite bad for Yahtzee at times, and being spotted at this bar is gonna make thing so much worse.

If its going to be open in Australia, then it's a very lame idea. They're cracking down on video games and if they haven't already they'll be tightening laws on alcohol too.
But the idea itself, I find entertaining.
