I wouldn't see the point, while the Galaxy S3 blows it out of the water now, (having briefly had the chance to use one the other day, they feel fantastic, ultra fast and sleek, and they weigh almost nothing) the iphone4 was comparable to the S2 putting it down to a matter of preference, however, given Apples pricing structure, you'd likely pay the same price for this Iphone mini as you would a Galaxy S2.

Nevermind the fact that the Iphone 3 is still around and can be gotten dirt cheap these days.

So there is a lot of iHate going on around the Escapist.
I thought that since most people on the Escapist like Nathan Fillion is a fan of iPhone as is Stephen Colbert, I thought there would be some support for it here.
Oh god no, I products are the opposite of valve round here.

Liking something 'cos somebody you like has it, that is being the biggest sheep. You're not thinking for yourself about whether you like the product or if it suits you.

On topic. My brother got a contract with an Iphone that is quite reasonable, I think it might be a better deal than mine and I got a phone called a "San Diego".

I have an ipod touch though, the headphone port is fucked though.

Currently I have two apple products. An old iPod and the original iPad. Both of these products were free and I will not upgrade my iPad and I will keep buying Archos mp3 players and if I ever get a new tablet it will probably go for Android or Microsoft.

I don't like how Apple runs things. As cheap as possible, as bad for its employees as possible with as high prices as they think we are willing to shell out for. I also like my products to be open and free of restrictions (which is why I also don't love the idea of the Microsoft tablets which will probably be as closed up as Apple's tablets).

Well, maybe. I got a iPhone 3GS for free in 2009, and I fell in love with it. It was really reliable, never really crached and made what I wanted. It was a perfect match for my needs, It's still running good up till' today. I'm quite sure that I will change phone soon, so I'm guessing I'll choose a iPhone 5 in that case. I would problaby not change to a Androidphone, since I don't really like then that much from what I have used them.

Apple recently won a lawsuit against Samsung and now the iPhone 5 has launched.
But the iPhone 5 is very expensive as is the 4S while Samsung builds affordable phone with Android and so do several other companies.
So if Apple starts building cheap phones with a single or dual core processor, cheaper GPU, smaller screen and lower quality camera and put the iOS in it and called it the iPhone Pocket or iPhone Mini would you buy it?
For people who buy this stuff near launch date, would you stop buying the actual expensive iPhones?
Even the iPhone 5 still runs on a dual core CPU.
I didn't know that. I assumed that since the Galaxy S3 had a quad-core the iPhone did too.
Actually only the international version of the S3 has a quad core the American and Japanese veison are both dual-core.

OT: For me it depends on a lot of factors. I don't own a smart phone yet, but when I do get one I would consider a budget apple product, but to be frank I am more likely to buy an android device. I just like the way android works better.

I would buy it for the low cost of 0 dollars when I renew my contract because if I don't like it I can always go back to my Xperia which would still be better than a stripped down iPhone. If nothing else I can just crack it open and see if there is anything to make my iPod work again.

Apple products just have never interested me given their price is far more than they're worth comparatively to other devices/parts. Not to mention you can't open and repair your own stuff, you're at mercy to the genius bar.

No thank you.

Hell no. Apples full price products break enough, I'd hate to see them release budget versions.

Yes, but if Apple made a cut-down budget version, it would still be comparatively expensive because they would still sell it for more than whatever product it's rival would be. An iPhone 5 is almost £150 more over the contracts length than its main rival the Galaxy S3. A budget iPhone would still be like £75 more expensive than it's rival. Therefore it would still be overpriced.

Why not just buy the previous device, plus apple is where people go for quality devices.
No, Apple is where people go when they don't want to have to put any effort into their purchase.

I have no trouble affording Apple products at the moment so I'm happy with my iPhone 4s and the rest of my Apple devices. I think that the iPhone mini is a good idea but as someone else has said already you can get the iphone 3g dirt cheap these days so it's fairly useless.

Knowing how much Apple overprices, their "Budget" products would probably cost about as much as the high-end products from their competitors. I've owned an iPod Nano and an iPod Touch, and I have to say that even my crappy Samsung Prevail is better than both of them. I'm actually considering trading the former in at GameStop.
