books are art and entertainment, movies are art and entertainment, and videogames are also art and entertainment.

It honestly depends on the game. Why can't we treat video games like movies in this regard?

Are all movies art? Heck no, but there are movies that are artist and some that are both.

They can be both, but if we must choose one or the other, I'll always pick the entertaining one. I play games for entertainment. If I want art, I'll go find things created specifically as art (NOTE: Games designed solely as art usually aren't fun).

What makes some games 'art' and other games not?
Read the rest of my post.

To me, some games are art, some are not, much the same way where i'd consider some of modern "art" to be art, and some not.

To others, a game i think of as art may not be one, and one I don't think is art may be art to others.

Art is entirely subjective.

Most of them are purely entertainment. Some strive to be art but of this group only a handful have been successful at being interpreted (by me) as art.

But who are you (or anyone else for that matter) to decide whether a part of a certain medium isn't art? What is your criteria for making something art within a videogame? And why does it not apply to all videogames?

I'm just trying to understand your viewpoint.

Both.

They're entertainment as in the keep me .. entertained.
They're art ... well they're lots of art, each individally designed piece put together to create epic visuals of scenery, portraits and everything else.

They're purely entertainment from my point of view. I don't get why people gotta label it as art just to defend that they still play games.

... and let the flame wars begin.
Its not about labeling it art just so you can say you play it with out any shame. I could play um... hm...
Well, oka, I could play Drake of the 99 Dragons and call it art, but it would still get me some hateful looks. its about giving games the rights other things art wise get, which is good, because then they dont get hounded on and hated as much, or have something of a shield so Fox news and that dumb ass conservatives That Agree dont blast to to pieces and make game companies decide not to.

But I say its both. Like moves are both. and really art its self in the sense that we thinkg of it (picutres, paintings, sculptures, side walk drawings [o.0? yes, I did just said side walk drawings, you'll see in a second]) can be entertaining.

For example, these are all things I find rather entertaining that could be considered art:

Why not both?
I view art as entertaining if not inspiring. Also there it seems there is definitely an Art to entertainment.

So... I'd assume both!

As I said, art is subjective.

In my mind a point of view, to me, not all games quially as art in my book, just like some paintings or modern art I don't see as art.

But I understand that to other's, that may not be the case.

It's hard to explain, i'd go into more detail, but I have an asston of work I should be doing. XD

Any argument stating interactive media does not have artistic potential is ridiculous. The whole debate only exists because of a bunch of dumb biggots who haven't played a good game.

Simply put: Art serves the need of the human mind and is thus a form of entertainment. Dividing the two is, in my opinion, impossible.
