I keep seen new re-releases of current gen consoles and its starting to bother me
for the Xbox 360 you have the Acrade, 20Gb, 60gb, 120gb elite, 250gb elite, 4gb S, 250gb S.
for the PS3 you have the 20 gb, 40 gb, 60gb with Backward compatibility, 60 GB without BC, 80 Gb with BC, 80 gb without BC, 160 gb, 120 gb slim, 160 gb slim, 250 gb slim.
With the PSP you have the 1000,2000,3000 and Go plus the countless special edition bundles that come out inevitably with ever note worthy game.
With the Nintendo DS you have the DS, DS lite, DSi, DSi XL
and finally the Wii which comes in white or black and with or with out Motion plus.
and the thing is I'm probably forgetting some and I'm not even counting the 3DS or in bundles that will come with Kinect or Move.

Is anyone else bothered that the game company's think they can keep squeezing hundred of thousands of dollars out of use, for things we most likely already have.

I right now own all the current consoles (most in their earliest incarnations with the exception of my DSi XL which I only got because my DS lite broke)

Not bothered because im not one of the fools who buys them. I'm using a 60GB Xbox 360 and that more than enough storage for me. Can't imagine the level of hardcore that would need more.

Thia does however prove that you don't dive on a new release. Say the PS4 came out tomorrow, you dont buy it because a month down the line there will be a larger memory pack. Wait and test the waters

I like them. Usually I get them for the following reasons:

-don't own the original system, or game
-don't want to treck out to a game store
-add improvements such as better graphics or more gamemodes
-co-op/multiplayer
-NOSTALGIA!

EDIT: Sorry, misunderstood.

I don't care for them. It's to make improvements that the first ones don't have, but really you don't have to have these special features.

I don't see the problem. If a person decides an upgrade is worth the money then who is to say otherwise?

It's mostly just memory. Or in the 360's case, different chip sets, like the Jasper and Xenon.

I wonder how much money they're making or bleeding doing them. There really should only be 3 different models and the rest are shells that justchange the look of the machine.

Wait, what's nostalgia got to do with multiple versions of the same console being re-released?

I'm not saying that all re-releases are bad (I love my DSiXl) Just that in this gen game company's seem to have gone a little overboard.

I can see the usefulness in sliming down a bulkier product or fixing a flaw like the RRoD problem. But the game industry past that line a long time ago in this gen.

I thought you were talking about the re-realeased Sega Genesis/Megadrive or other similar, I think those are great.

Out of your list I just own a PSP 2000 (The best one ;))

Not at all. Why shouldn't they bring out new models? I got a new Xbox because my old one no longer went with my home entertainment setup. Now all my gear is matching again.

Ah, I misunderstood. I thought game rereleases, not console ones.

Yes I read the OP, I was just thinking of the stores there are.

The new consoles are for new customers, not existing ones. Nobody's forcing anyone to buy a new console every time there is a slight hardware revision.

Handheld rereleases annoy me, because they're never worth upgrading if you've got the previous version. For the larger consoles, the changes can be quite useful. Still Micro$oft and $ony will do them regardless.

well then why not do something like dell does for computers and have custom consoles ordering someone could go online and order what they need HDD size, controller options, bundled games, the Colors and design of the unite and stuff like that, to me that just seem like less of a waste.

I think it sort of has a purpose, but the sheer amount of variations this generation of consoles has been absurd. I am leaning towards the 360 being worse than the PS3 though. The guiltiest of the PS3 was the 20GB model and second 80GB model with no backwards compatability. The PS3 slim may not have the emotion chip, but I felt it was a great price for a large chunk of memory, while prior versions could at least be upgraded to insanely high PC hard drives so it sort of evens out (But I still wish I had an 80GB with BC). The 360 on the other hand is just so dubious what with the hardware's questionable reliability. Each time a new chip was out it felt like "Is this the one that won't melt?!?" I also feel that a facet of the issue with the 360 is the conjoined matter of proprietary hard drives that are absurdly expensive. I'm stuck with an old 20GB from the older models before the Elite 120GB and jasper 60GB, and there's no way in a frozen hell that I'll pay the kind of sum Microsoft wants for an oversized memory stick.

As for Handhelds, I do not play them so I can't say.
