As someone who always purchases all consoles - I had a Turbo Graffix 16 when I was 13, oh yeah, those were the days - I come into this discussion not as a fan girl of any of the consoles in particular. I think it's great they war and fight. Leads to gaming innovation if you ask me.
Knowing that about me, the Wii was a big disappointment. I bought it when it first came out. Then, a year later, as it sat gathering dust on my AV rack, I decided to sell it back so I could get a second 360 in my house. I wasn't the only one I know who did this. My brother did it as well.
I made myself a deal. When the Wii came out with 10 games I really had to play, I would buy it again. I still don't own one. I don't feel like I am missing anything. No, I don't think Nintendo cares about me. They got my future sister in law, who never played a game in her life, to buy one. She loves wii sports. She doesn't play any of the games I would consider great Nintendo games. She is just like the 58 year old librarian I know who also purchased one. A casual gamer. That's what Nintendo wanted, that's what they got. It was a great marketing ploy. Props to them. They are rolling in the cash.
But I don't necessarily hate on Nintendo for this. Xbox and Playstation have picked up all the games Nintendo can't do because their system is all gimmick and no power. It is a valid business model. I'm just no longer a part of their demographic. They don't think of me when they are making oodles of cash, and I haven't thought of them when I'm played ME2, Bioshock 2, and Assassin's Creed 2 all in the last few weeks. We're good.
