No. Not by a longshot. Simply by the fact that we still have the option to choose to play games like stalin vs martians. Noone has a gun at your back telling you you have to play ArmA, now are they?

I sya we need both. Games that are obviously meant to be just games and fantasy, as well as games that seem like you are playing real life but as a game. Cause sometimes you just want to play soemthing out of this world, then others you want real life but manipulated in a fun way.

Brown, gray and gritty are not realistic. Why do we keep calling them that?

The JRPG/Sim game Persona 4 and Persona 3 (but more emphasis on the former of the two) featured what I liked to think of as true realism.

1. You never have enough time to do anything in a day.
2. You have to get a job to make money.
3. Interactions with your friends are nice, even if they just happen to say the right thing all the time.
4. You get parts of dead shadows and money for turning in those parts to a metalworker who can take the hide of a Hulk Hogan shadow and make a sword of shimmering steel.

..Oh wait..

I think it depends on how you look at it. There's a lot of people that say if you play violent video games you'll be a violent person. However, that's not always true. That would depend on the fact whether the person has violent tendancies or not.

I don't really think that they're too realistic. I'm not saying that in the future that the games won't be that way, I'm just merely saying that right now there's so many different styles of video games that it'd be hard to narrow it down to one precise answer.

I don't really care, as long as the games fun to play, it could involve cowboys shooting zombies from the back of praying mantis' for all I care.

Well there are realistic games and fantasy games, not all games are becoming realistic. The line is becoming a bit blurred though as some fantasy games are making the mistake of trying to become realistic in a world that defies any type of sense. This then makes some developers feel they need to adhere to realism too much and this destroys the creative do whatever you like ethos. But, in some games realism makes the games more impressive, but I hope it doesn't begin to impede the flow of free thought.

I don't consider it realistic to have to pilot a giant mech or fight a future war so no it isn't realistic.

Some games are too realistic. Which usually means too much micro managing of someones everyday life.

At this point, games can't get much more realistic. GoW2, Killzone 2, stuff like that. I mean, how on Earth do you top that.
last time i checked gow2 was about alians and since we dont know what they look like how is it realistic?

Killzone 2 realistic is good, you shoot a guy in the foot, he flinches and stumbles on the same foot you shot AND it enhances the gameplay. GTA 4 goes beyond realistic, you hit a bump and you do a triple flip and 9 barrel rolls and land upside down on top of a building... and that's with a semi. It just gets too irritating. GTA makes me want to jump out of a helicopter without a parachute in RL after about 2-3 hours of playing it.
