Fun is essential, not realism. That's why I always need to be in a fantasy world that isn't the real thing for me to have any kind of fun.
Hence I need games like Halo, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Gears of War, Portal, Half Life 2, Oblivion, Fable, Saint's Row 2, Otogi Myth of Demons, Dead Space, King Kong and a few others.
Just something to make me think I am in a new happy smiley fantasy land. I hate gritty contemporary war stuff.

Some games are. Like GTA its started out cartoony now you have to ring up your cousin to go bowling to keep him happy. At least until he died anyway, well thats how i played the game. But a game like Heavy Rain that is going to be realistic Im looking forward to playing. Its a game thats not out of context so to speak.

I think they should definitely have a bit more color variation. They've gone kinda overboard with shading and tones. I like an environment with good graphics and such, but as far as actual content I want to be doing crazy shit.

Games will be too realistic when we have FPSs that require you to witness your conception, spend a few levels developing in your mother, get born, grow up through childhood, go to college, get a job, buy a house, pay mortgage, get fired, go into debt and depression, drink yourself unconscious, go to rehab, come back a new man/woman, start a new "chapter" in your life, get a new job, find a girl/boyfriend, have a meaningful relationship, get married, have children, raise said children, pay for said children, wish you had never had said children, rejoice when said children move out, grow old, become senile, have your children (Whom you now refer to as "those kind strangers" in your old age and warped mind) put you in a home, grow older, have nurses fret over your frail body, and eventually die.

hmmmmm.....i'd play that game :/
I think it would sell.

Maybe.

I hate to be a grammar/spelling nazi, but you should have used "too" not "to", that mistake makes my face tic, lol. And on topic, I voted no, because they are definitely not realistic at all, and I don't think it would be a problem if they were more realistic.

A realistic game wouldn't have so much grey and brown as Gears of War did.
I look at real life, there's plenty of green, red, blue, yellow, etc... there's a lot of colour in this world.

I do believe what Gears of War and games with similar tone are doing is a Frank Miller take on reality, but on the other end of the spectrum, we've got games like Oblivion, where the goal seems to be to blind you with fancy HDR super stars.

It depends. I'd personally love to see realistic gameplay, fully destructable environments, damage actually existing and lasting and needing proper medical attention or disablities ensue, stuff like that. Plot and graphics don't need to be realistic (though the better the plot or graphics the happier I'll be), but in general I want to see realistic gameplay. I mean, look at any RTS. You get troops appear out of nowhere next to your buildings which are often smaller than the squad that's apparently barracked there. Any FPS - you get shot, you heal by walking over a healthpack, or your shields magically recharge after a short pause. That grates on my nerves. Realistic gameplay FTW :D
