Look at the Xbox live main demographic of 12-year olds and toe-rags. Look hard. Now think, that these are the people who buy the games. Game developers want to make money, and people give money for games, ergo we will continue to be seeing cardboard cut-outs holding BFG 4000's with rainbows vomited all over them until someone up higher in the chain gets some sense. Or they go the route of pixies and unicorns and difficulty levels the rock that the garden snail sleeps on could easily navigate with half its brains cut out, or "mainstream", as the dev's like to call it. Exceptions do exist, but they are few and far between.

Why yes, I AM still angsty about Nintendo stabbing me in the back, what let you on?

My problem is so many people whine and yell and swear up and down about how much they want gameplay over graphics and more so with people like RPG's but when get games made today by indie publishers with a ton of gameplay or more hardcore stat driven depth and story. They turn up there noses at the graphics and then go back on and whine and beat there chests that graphics don't matter.

One of the sad facts is that games that are true gem's Geneforge series and Eschlon Book 1 will never be given any time even by allot of "Hardcore RPG" Fans because of the simple graphics. I mean I can't even remember how many people laugh when they see how Castle of the Winsd looks yet it is still a great game I think.

You know what, on THIS point, I will totally agree with you. We are offered a lot in the "Arcade" and Indie department of the industry, in terms of gameplay and story, or just plain fun really! Just like in the old days!! Brilliant!

In terms of the commercial industry though it's still very lacklustre!

I beg to differ.
how can you define a B movie plot.
many HI-budget movies have terrible plots take most super hero movies for example.
A plot like the one from silent hill 2 has not given me a B movie feel it's actually quite well written. So where the lucas arts classic adventure games.
but Today I think stories aren't fleshed out with their eye on a sequel. might not be a new series but take the legacy of kain series. You have to play all 5 games to really understand what has happend. But then again in some games a story could work distracting. But I think (hope)the whole graphic focus thing is wearing off
I'm sorry, I really should've clarified that.

A film like Independance Day was an A-list movie, to be certain, due to it's special effects. And we have games that beat out that plotline any day. But we don't have anything that comes close to a movie that was A-list because of it's plotline.

We don't have the Godfather, we don't have Citizen Kane, there's no rival for Sophie's Choice. These are movies where the plot is what made it an A-list film, and video game plots, existing as they often do as an afterthought to drive the gameplay, don't keep up with that.

Apologies if my "B-movie" statement was unclear.
