Poll: Are Left 4 Dead/28 Days Later "zombies" really zombies?

If I remember correctly, zombies were firstly thought as people who came back from the dead, not infected. I might be wrong.
I do consider L4D "zombies" as zombies, although the 28 days later ones didn't seem as the real thing to me..now that I think of it, I have no idea why, they seem to be the exact same thing.

Nope. They are simply infected people. This was on of the problems that the Australian classification guys have when L4D2 was being released here. A lot of the blood and violence was toned down because you were slicing up living people, not dead zombies.

Well, they do bite people.

I mean, honestly, they fit zombie behavior, maybe not the ones some filmmakers thought up in the '70s or '30s, but hell, it's not like there's some fantasy authority that declares things zombies or not-zombies.

They're violent, think of nothing besides killing and turning, and the writers decided to call them zombies/infected, so I'm going to call them zombies, even if they don't necessarily fit the "taxonomy guide"

well to a degree, but to avoid confusion, i like to call fast zombies "Zoombies" making everything just a little bit clearer, or just adding another unnessecary word to the english language

movies like 28 Days Later are really "zombies" in the traditional sense.

The director (Danny Boyle) of 28 Days Later is adamant that they are infected, and not zombies, so that kinda answers that.

As for the fast zombies in general? Sure, they're zombies. Zombies aren't real, so they can have whatever properties you want them to have, surely?

They don't rise from their graves, and they seem to be less centered on eating you and more focused on spreading the infection.quote]

They happen to spread the infection by eating/biting you (from what I recall). I view them as zombies because they are undead and have no traces of their bodies previous occupent.

Simple answer

ZOMBIE

A zombie is asserted to be a reanimated corpse, or a human who is being controlled by someone else by use of magic with some media renditions using a pandemic illness to explain their existence

INFECTED

they are living humans who have been Infected by the Green Flu virus, causing massively increased aggression and loss of many higher brain functions such as speech and self-preservation. Unlike cinematic zombies, those present in the Left 4 Dead series attack human victims but do not attempt to eat them.

No nom-nom = Not Zombie

The correct term for the zombies in 28DL, L4D, and the like is "rage zombies".

And technically, the zombies in in the L4D games aren't actually zombies. They're not dead, and are in fact, fully aware. They just have REALLY short tempers now. And some of the more annoying ones have developed traits. Like turning into the Hulk.

That said, who cares? It's still fun to shoot 'em, or alternatively, bash their heads in with a guitar.
