A friend of mine knows a guy who heard of a person who bruised her toe when she dropped the board on it.

Stay away from that shit!

You're asking on the wrong community.

This is a mainstream gaming forum. Its 'cool to be skeptic/a debunker' here.

Yes, they are dangerous. Regardless of what anyone says on a gaming community, don't buy into it and don't touch the thing.

Seeing as how these boards(as in the Escapist) are largely agnostic/athiest, you're probably not going to get much more than "Of course not, only mentally damaged people play with them! There's no such thing as ghosts!" Which, reading through the first page, is pretty much what was said.

I believe in the paranormal. I don't believe in heaven or hell but I believe when we die we leave behind something other than a corpse. I don't think, however, that a board game is somehow dangerous or even functional in contacting something from another plane of existance.

However, my mother when she was still alive forbade them from the house. If you so much as suggested one in her household, you were asked to leave.

Ouija boards are toys. The only thing to fear is whatever your conjure up in your own head. With a Ouija board you are basically making your own fear. Even though I wasn't allowed to have one because my Abuelita and Mother were incredibly superstitious. My friend did have one however, and we found it incredibly boring.
I take it you come from a hispanic family? (Im hispanic as well)

Yeah that was the same in my house.

I take it you have had bad experiences with the Ouija board?

In the "bring murderous entities to your living room" sense? I really, really doubt it. Even if ghosts or whatever do exist, I don't really see how a little glass thing sliding around a piece of wood would get their attention.

Either way, I don't think it's a good idea. If you were to contact beings on the proverbial other side, what would you say, "hey dead guy, we brought you here to dance for our amusement and make the walls bleed!"? Can you honestly see that going well for anyone involved? If I were disturbed from my promised eternal rest by a bunch of bored kids, I'd rip their fucking heads off (given power to do that) and say
"THIS is what being dead is like, enjoy."

If there's no reaction, you're just playing the world's most "you cheated"-prone board game. Why not try scary stories and well-placed halloween decorations? If scaring is the goal, I think they'd get the job done just as well.

About as dangerous as a snakes and ladders board.
Or anything you could throw.

If ghosts can interact, why would they use letters written on paper rather than, say, a keyboard?

Yes; before using it, surround your house in salt, cover your walls in dream catchers, get very drunk, and keep an elephant gun by the table (to beat dangerous ghosts to death with)
Yeah, no, no.

Sharp edges, kids, be careful!

No really though, I tried the whole Ouija Board thing once. It was really boring. Nothing happened and my friends only got mildly spooked when an air-conditioner fired up randomly during the session. Not even remotely dangerous unless you have a hair-trigger heart condition.

I'm sorry what?

You can't possibly scare that easily, are you five years old or something?

You cannot communicate to the dead via a board-game. Never thought I'd actually have to type that sentence out of some heavily ironic context.

On second thought, yes, it is dangerous. If you're stupid enough to buy into that crap, you're stupid enough to kill yourself, probably by choking on the token.
Dunno Got into a heated argument with a ghost named Jim useing the monapoly board....

I was going to get one and use it with a few friends. Now, I don't usually buy into this sort of stuff but after hearing a few creepy stories (i scare easily) I'm not so sure. So, have you had any experiences? Most importantly: Are they dangerous?
Only to the particularly stupid. Then again, all objects with corners, points, or even just a little bit of heft are dangerous to the particularly stupid.

So yes. It's dangerous. For you, at any rate.
