This is simply an observation but I've noticed that homophobia is less common in single sex schools, well in all guy schools anyway, by homophobia I mean the dislike of borderline homoerotic acts and appearing to be homosexual. At my school, gay banter is very common and it's fun, I'm straight but I'm not bothered by being called a homosexual. Is that a dry hump in the class room? no one cares.

Has anyone else noticed this?
Eh... the... you... wha?

Maybe that's the reason some boys prefer single sex schools. Not me though, I loves the ladies.
Embrace the acceptance, guy hug!!

I honestly don't know the reason why, but the current generation are a pack of pricks. I'm not even 30 yet (almost there) and I don't know why its changed so much in 10-15 years, back when I was in high school, sure there was sex and drugs and booze, but not to the degree it is now, and hell they are starting younger and younger!

W-T-F is wrong with you kids?

In the Netherlands we, or at least as far as I am aware besides a few exceptions, don't really have single sex schools. I personally think that it's silly to segregate the sexes. As others have mentioned, its important to learn to interact with your peers. You may become hampered if you grow up with only boys or girls. Perhaps the quality of education improves, but in practise that is useless since you need to convey that information around, without staring at that women's boobies all the time. In co-ed you've had plenty of time doing that, and you've had plenty of opportunities to learn that it's rude to do. Extremely pleasing and fun, but rude none the less.

I went to a co-ed everything. My High School had a population of about 2,100 and my class about 550. There was only two pregnancies. (granted there could of been many secret abortions that I didn't know about)

Now there is an all girl school (actually 2 of them) in this city as well, I knew (was boffing) a girl that went to that school it was of similar size, ethnic makeup and socioeconomic makeup. They had 12 pregnancies that year.

The all boys high school had no teen pregnancies that year.

I feel you need co-ed schools because otherwise kids don't learn to interact with the other gender on a socially normal level.

Great question for me because I am still trapped in the american public school system. Let me answer this question by saying why do you think men are rapped in prison? given up yet there are no girls. If there were no girls in the school I would go insane and so would many others, while other guys would go gay.

(i don't know how women would like single sex school, I only how I would feel)

I go to an all-guys' catholic school, but I'm gay so I guess the whole need for eye-candy thing doesn't really apply to me.. It all comes down to the student and what they need, since you can always flirt with the opposite sex outside of school.

Much like home-schooled kids don't develop good social skills, single-sex schools wouldn't provide kids and students enough experience with dealing with the opposite sex. Yes, there are precautions and problems that come with co-ed schools, but overall I think they provide a better environment for someone to learn in.

Edit: This is only my opinion. I AM BUT ONE MAN!

YES I HAVE NOTICED THIS! everyone in my school (catholic & all boys) participates in homo-erotic acts daily. there is even playful grinding at dances. i've kinda forgotten about the craziness of the idea, since i'm now a junior. and also, my class seems actually be less homophobic than the others at my school, defending gay-marriage and stuff during debates in class. it doesn't suggest that they themselves are gay, just that they're comfortable with their sexuality.

its kinda hard to concentrate with your eyes constantly being pulled to the nearest piece of exposed female skin. If its a sausage fest their would be nothing really to do but work and pay attention, right?

It's always been my opinion that kids that go to Single-Sex schools don't really develop properly. You kind of need interaction with the opposite when you're growing up, especially during puberty.
This. Without girls(or boys, depending on your gender) you won't know how to interact properly or at all with the opposite sex. Its been proven, and its pretty easy to see it too if you do ever encounter someone from a single sex school.
Yes, I've had encounters like that. Odd people, in many ways, and quite disturbing some of them.

Edit: I'm not saying everyone who goes to a single sex school is like that! Just the ones I know.

Wait wait, are you qualifying your side of the argument by saying that girls are boys are different people socially?

Wow. Just wow at the ignorance.
