No. We are just getting lazy, it's not like we aren't learning new things as each day goes on in the world.

I voted yes even though I don't think Dumber is the right word. I think we're becoming more Ignorant. To me that means we have the same intelligence just... less reason to use it. We also seem to ignore more things then before. Hopefully we get smarter... hopefully I make sense. I don't anymore I think I've gotten dumber...

I agree.
If people became more driven and determined then we would see a dramatic increase in everyone's intelligence.

I don't put myself on a pedestal so I don't assure myself that I'm more intelligent than the average man.It seems humility isn't very popular atm.

I fall asleep in my english class fairly often because of this book, it's incredibly boring 'cather in the rye' Teacher threw a copy of the book at me about a week ago.
Don't diss Holden Caufield man.

I don't think humanity is getting dumber, it's just that the newer generations cant be arsed to do anything, due to the pressing matters of "what to wear" and "does (s)he like me" and "zomg teh new iphone is out wantwantwant" that are so popular among these young people today.

Hey Fellow Escapees,
I was just wondering, do you think humans are getting dumber? I mean, I'm 15 years old and due to a horrendously bad immune system, I am barely in school. But I work hard and study when I'm out, right now for example. Though when I'm in school, I can't help but notice the other kids in my Geometry class start dozing, not even bothering to do their work. As and adult, I want to become a priest because I am a very devout Catholic. So, because of this, I obviously won't be having any offspring. I just thought like I would add that information in just because I'm really concerned for my generation, and there doesn't seem to be much I can do because of my health. That means other people of my generation need to step up, I guess. I try my VERY hardest in school, though. So to cut to the chase, my question to you is: Are we getting dumber, if so, why?

Thanks guys, I just need some other opinions on the matter because I am nervous.

HOPEFULLY, this rambling makes sense....
I think the problem is that you are home schooled.

since you are home schooled you don't have a stressful schedual where you have to be in a differnet class every hour about 7-9 hours a day, since you can stay in one room you can get a lot more done since you simply don't have to go from point A to Point B without worring if you forgot your book at Point C and if you forgot your homework at home witch is point D that is at least 5-10min to get it at minimum and then you don't have to worry about the school admistration yelling at you for showing up late constantly.

Now I understand that you are older and now have to go to school like every average poor boy, but you wouldn't beleave how stressfull that can get over 5-7 years.

now some people beleave it or not do sports. some coaches are crazy and force their kids to come to school 5AM in the morning to run.

Some people slack off, some have perfectly good reasons, some have bad ones, but nether have to do with inteligence.

People slack off because they are not motivated to work, not because they are not inteligent.

I hope that your path to priesthood is a good one,but right now I think there are a few texts in the book of PSALM that should help with some understanding.

Actually, the statistics point toward the conclusion that we're getting *smarter*. IQ tests have to be increased in difficulty every few years to keep the "average" at 100. I kid you not. Read Everything Bad Is Good For You [http://www.amazon.com/Everything-Bad-Good-You-Actually/dp/1573223077] if you don't believe me.

Oh, and remember that knowledge and intelligence are two different things. I'd say that the trend is that people are definitely more *ignorant* than they used to be, but that may be an illusion too since it's not like I have a good statistical sample.
