No. Not at all. As a mostly passive fan of the movies, I still enjoyed the classic versions. Then Jar Jar Binks...JAR JAR BINKS. Words cannot express my rage.

Although to be fair without the prequels we wouldn't have Weird Al's The Saga Begins. But that still doesn't make up for it.

Well for one I'll post this first.

Second a lot of the complaints people have are completely valid from that NOOOOOOOO scream at the end of episode 6 to Obi Wan doing that krayt dragon scream in episode 4. It seems like every change he keeps trying to make is just making them worse and worse.

Hmm interesting question, i hear the OP's point but heres the thing. The movies rae George lucas's intellectual property. Forget the fact is basically a semi medieavil fantasy translated to a outer space, it is his IP so frankly he can do what he wants with it. There are enough different versions of it flying around now that you can choose which bits you like and just watch them. stop whining.

But naming a planet after a curse word was hilarious. I miss his old movies, maybe I'll go re-watch them. Back when good movies consisted of good acting and so-so CGI.

The prequels weren't as good as the originals but I still enjoyed them and I don't really have a problem with them. The main thing I do have a problem with is the fact that the original originals aren't available except on VHS. Make those available and it's all good. As far as I'm concerned he can muck around with the movies all he wants as long as the original theatrical releases are available. That way, those who don't want their memories tainted are happy and those who like the new versions remain happy. And more DVDs are sold, which means more money for George. Make it happen man...

I don't really care, I've always thought he was a terrible director. I grew up watching the original Star Wars and I thought they were acceptable at best. The new Star Wars movies were worse. He's always made mediocre crap, and I don't think people were hard enough on him to begin with. But at least the original Star Wars were at least watchable, thanks to people who told Lucas that what he had envisioned was crap.

Of course !
Every creator has the right to do whatever he wants with his creation as long as it stays his own toy. But when he decides to sell it and people buy it, then things become nasty. Lucas can play with his creations as much as he can - he can remake it with porno stars and Cinderella dialogues if it's his wish.

Yet it wasn't enough for him. He attempted to change the canon and it's very hard to say why he did that. There really was no need to change things, because they were very close to perfection. We - the people who got used to things like they used to be for longer than a decade - weren't happy with those changes, we felt robbed, so we had rights to express our feelings in words we feel are appropriate.

As a side note :
Our very own Gavin aka Miracle of Sound said that he made his Sovngarde song in 30 versions (give or take). We got one, and this is called "Sovngarde song". That's the way to handle things. You do something, you leave it and move on. You don't scream 20 years later "guys, guys, this was supposed to be different". Period.

Maybe if he took all that critism at heart sooner - like 15 years ago - he wouldn't be the black sheep that he is now.

And honestly, do you think after the gigantic clusterfuck he's turned Star Wars into that George really cares about what the fans think of him now? He was most likely going to leave anyway, but decided to play the victim as he left the stage. Pathetic!

Go dry your crocodile tears in your billions of dollars, George. May you never touch a single frame of film in your life.

Not even close. The Classic Movies where from a Story Perspective not that good. The new ones are piss poor and you can see Lucas' Lazyness all over it. In the old Movies he spent quite some time with shot composition. Beginning of "A new Hope": Ship is chased by giant Ship. The first Ship isn't that small, but the second Ship is just huge. And portrayed very well, the effects hold up partly because they where just right between "too cheap" and "too selfabsorbed". You don't think about the special effects though, how good or bad this effect looks because Lucas spent quite some time to make them so that they don't stick out in any way.

They are just there. The Composition of the first Scene lets you know that the Empire means Business and that the Rebels are in a tight Spot. While it gives you Lasers in Space.

George Lucas used to fight against the Studio System, he made this Movie under constant Pressure.

But then, the Money cam.
Lucas still had some Idealism left when "Return of the Jedi" came around but the Ewoks should have been the first Sign of the Metamorphosis from Idealist to Capitalist.

He fought the System and then he became the System. Worse then anything he tried to prove wrong.

He know pisses all over his own trade, his old Movies and the Medium in General to make Money. People who disagree with him are fired.

Nowadays he sits in a Chair with his Coffee and gives out Orders.

He tried to make a Citizen Kane Story, innocent Hero being corrupted and then becoming corrupting himself. Could've worked if he did put at least some Effort in it.
In the DVD Commentary he sounds like a rambling Lunatic, when he's not sitting in his Chair.

But he lives his own Citizen Kane Story. Independent Filmmaker tries to prove Moneygrabbing greedy Studiosystem wrong and then becomes the greediest of them all.

So no, i'm not done by a Longshot. About time someone slapped his Hand away from the editing Board and gave him a coloring Book.

I've always thought so, I guess mostly because I grew up on prequels and special editions and therefore don't mind them as much as everyone else. But even disregarding that, nobody deserves that much hate over a movie. Hell, people are more vocal in their hate against George Lucas then they are in their hate over actual bad people.

Up until Revenge of the Sith came out, I think most of the hate was excessive, sure Ewoks were dumb, Jar Jar was one of the most hateable characters ever and the Hayden Christensen-Natalie Portman romance was bad... AND THEN, everything that he or his companies have done since 2005 has been a resounding meh or absolutely terrible, so yeah, in the last few years, I think he's earned it. All the shenanigans with that Clone Wars film and the awful Force Unleashed games; basically he's largely sunk his own franchise since 2005. TOR may be somewhat redeeming from what I've heard, but I won't regard it as such because I haven't played it yet and indeed may never play it.

If he didn't keep trying to rape the originals I don't think I'd have a problem with it.
Adding the 'NOOOOOOOO' to Return of the Jedi was just madness. I mean, the WORLD mocked the 'NOOOOOOO' when it was in Revenge of the Sith, so surely he realised that it was more pathetically hilarious than dramatic.

If he had just left the originals alone and then went on and did other things, even if those things sucked we could still appreciate the Original Star Wars. Yet he now seems intent on making the originals suck too.
Madness!

I'm just going to say the same thing I said in the News thread about his retirement

"So what you're telling me George, is when you made starwars all those many years ago, you intended for Greedo to shoot first in A New Hope and for Vader to yell at the climax of Return of the Jedi? Those things weren't restricted by the technology of that time so you could have put them in. Of course this could mean that this means those weren't part of your 'original plan' and instead you do just like mucking around with the films."

No we're not too hard on him; he's abusing his right as an IP holder, he's a liar for the reason cited above and he's completely lost sight not only with the fans of his franchaise, but he has lost any sense of movie creation. He tried to fix what he saw as rough edges of a film by running a plasma cutter through it.

I for one think we all did a great job at stopping him from making any more awful movies. I couldn't be happier with the result.

Oh George..

Reading the article in the Times it all seems so sad.

I never thought that paranoia and petulance would ever be words I'd use to describe George Lucas, but after this article I don't really see how I can not.
