I camp where the situation provides, like point defending, Demolition on MW2 etc

I remember when I played Battlefield 2142 even as a sniper I loved getting into the battle and didn't care if I died because of my lack of powerful short ranged weaponry. When I spotted an enemy on the field I'd just zoom and fire right in the open area. I hate camping, you have to wait for the enemy to show up just to fire, miss, then get shot and question how you got killed from way up there or something like that.

talent is overrated. i'd rather have 50 kills and 3 people rage quit because of me then prance around with 3 kills and 34 deaths. Also, if you HAVE talent, then you wouldn't be mad at campers, you'd see them like i do, free kills. take out a few snipers with a pistol and then ill hear what you have to say.[\b]

Or with a knife...

If you do, you ruin the game.
Not entirely true. (In MW2 at least) I'm an offensive camper in that:
1) I use a ghost class much of the time (supressor, cold blooded and ninja)
2) I don't remain in one spot. I run around a certain area, for example close to the enemy's spawn.
3) I actually contribute to the game by capping points, flags etc and generally distracting the enemy.

I entirely agree with this.

(Sniping is camping by nature, and that is how you use the weapon, so you do not count. This refers to when you are using anything except a sniper rifle.)
IMO, this is a surefire way to make sure I die quickly, or at least don't get a good K/D ratio. To successfully snipe, you need to switch positions every couple of kills and try not to give away you position. Otherwise the enemy will find your position and flush you out, sneak behind you or simply counter snipe you. That or go around quickscoping. (unsuccessfully in my case)

Definetly not a camper myself. I lack any sort of patience online so I usually try to figure out the best route to sprint around to get a good flank on the enemy. Sometimes I'll set a quick ambush around a corner if a guy chases me but if he doesn't fall for it then I'll get moving again.

I mean heck I have to put ACOGs on all my snipers because when you're up closer to the enemy like I usually am I can't stand the normal scope.

I also don't camp and for the same reason as Bob here, absolutely no patience whatsoever. I also find it more fun and satisfying when you work for your kills.

Yes, in games that make camping a viable stragity... such as MW2, in a game like halo I would say that camping is much harder since you can't kill other players as quickly and most weapons are very inacurate.

No. I also don't have a problem with them because once you know where they are, you can avoid them.

I wouldn't be surprised that if most camping is people just knowing, the map well and slowly coming around corners where people frequent. I got called a camper on Quarry when I ran around a teams backside and shot 3 dudes with the AA-12 in the back. I even missed the last guy with my last 4 shots and I ran up to him and knifed him without anyone reacting.

Actually, in regard to sniping, most good snipers move around quite a lot. Many FPS' have targeting assists which highlight players if you mouse over them, even at range, so often, staying put is not our best option.

However, in games which don't have that kind of mechanic, often finding a secluded spot where you blend in and have a good view is solid freakin gold.

never camp

Snipe a lot, though

Which requires finding spots, hiding, waiting for a target (so kinda camping, but more realistic and fair), shooting them, moving

Well, you said sniping doesn't count, so no. I spend most of my time sniping (even then a good sniper knows when it's time to get the hell out of dodge and find a new spot).

What your saying is completley true, by all means, except the type of gameplay in MW2 is supposed to be fast paced. The map sizes alone prove that. Look at Halo: the maps are quite large and open, even the smaller ones, so the resulting gameplay is medium paced. Operation Flashpoint and Battlefield have huge maps that allow more realistic tactics and slower gameplay. CoD4 and MW2 have compact maps. They seem big, but see how fast it takes you to get to the other side off the start. I dont run around like "dodgem with an uzi taped" to me. The game is too unforgiving if you do that, but I do move around, and that is the point.
but thats not online gaming, thats specifically modern warfare 1 and 2. if you tried playing battlefield in a modern warfare 2 manner it just wouldn't work, same with almost any other multiplayer fps. what can seem annoying in modern warfare isn't annoying in battlefield, but the question was do we ever camp, not do we camp in modern warfare. camping is encouraged on those games, but it was implied that campers 'ruin the game'. if you meant 'campers ruin modern warfare' that should have been the post, as it is it sounds like you're asking everyone to leroy jenkins their way across a map with zero tactical thought no matter the game.

besides, most good snipers move after every kill anyway, otherwise you get grenaded. camping is an outdated slur really, what people call camping these days is holing up. spawn camping is impossible on most games due to an invincibility fade in on new spawns and class based matches have all but eliminated item spawns. in my experience of online shooters "camper" is more an insult used by someone who's just walked into someone else's field of fire.

besides, in modern warfare 1 and 2 there are easily enough tools to dislodge a camper. riot shield, grenades and predator missiles come to mind.
thats my bad than. I should have specified MW2, as I was mad at the game at the time. But I am looking much forward to sending $60 DICE's way for BC2.

No in no way am I a camper. I hate when it happens to me and I don't do it. What really sucks is when you're camped and when you somehow get away they hunt you down and do it again. I ruins the game for me and it's the trick of weak players who have no talent or skill and need to make them selves feel better so they go with cheap kills. I only camp the person that camped me and I do it over and over and over again till they leave me alone and get the point. Camping is why I hate the Horde on my human rogue server and why I don't do online game play with FPS games.

Well, sorta. I try to find a good spot to hide in, then kill the idiots that run out into the open. Then after a few kills I leave and find another spot. I used to just stay in one spot the whole time but I found that people kept figuring out where I was and killing me. This works a lot better.

Camping is a sin in the sniper textbook. You camp, you get caught, you die. So, situation is you either get killed because you think it's a nice sniping spot where no one will find you (Killcams), or you get killed in a different spot, preserving your other spots from people who will inevitably think the same way?
