Why no BOTH option? I love cats, I love dogs, I love most animals in facts.

Apart from wasps, which I have a phobia of.

I think that a cat is a pet for an introvert whereas a dog is a pet thats better suited to the more outgoing type.

Theres also so much variety in dogs (i would assume not as much with cats) for example if you want a dog to guard your home then a dobberman or a german shepard is what you want. If you go hunting or want a more playful dog then a spaniel or a labrador is ideal. If you want a family dog then a staffordshire bull terrier i know they get bad press but they are a good family dog. Each breed has different attributes. Surprisingly if you want a dog that requires little excercise then get a greyhound (once theyve ran they just sleep all day) whereas hunting dogs like spaniels and retreivers need a lot of excercise and stimulus

I dont really know much about cats but is there much difference in breeds?

Cats, simple question... But I'll elaborate a little =)
I grew up in a home with cats (one at a time, but still) and I think they are "better" (just my opinion) and more easily taken care of then dogs. And I like most breeds of cat, while I only like a few breeds of dog ("like" as in "pleasing to the eye") but I don't have anything/much against dogs, except for those yipping/barking dogs who never stop/shut up.
(And a large cat is never too large to snuggle :D )

Sorry if I went off a bit. It is a subject close to my heart. I have seen dogs get killed for that, as well as my sisters 7yr old nephew being ripped apart and eaten alive in his own yard by pit bulls trained to fight that got out of a neighbors yard.
What...The...? That is horrible, My condolences to you(and your sister and the nephew's family).
That shouldn't happen to anyone and no one should even attempt to train fighting-dogs

I definitely prefer cats. They're less needy, less loud (usually), less obnoxious, less stinky, and generally easier to take care of. They cuddle, but they don't need constant attention. Dogs are stupid, slobbery, stinky, loud messes that you have to stop and give a personal escort to every time it needs to pee or poop. A dog is like a two year old that never grows up, whereas a cat is like an aloof teenager that only comes down to eat and participate in socialization purely at its own discretion.

The only problem is I'm at a bit of an impasse with my boyfriend. He doesn't live with me, but he's allergic to cats so if I get one him visiting me will become a problem (and if we do end up living together, that's also a problem). So I've decided I can tolerate a dog, but only a big one. And when I say big, I mean an Irish Wolfhound. I feel like the smaller a dog is the more stupid it is, so I want a giant dog to avoid that. And I specifically want an Irish Wolfhound because from what I read, they're a generally quiet and loyal breed that doesn't require as strict of training as a Husky or a Great Pyrenees, but still fairly large, intelligent, and friendly.

Gotta vote for cats. Although I enjoy dogs, cats know how to CALM DOWN when someone comes to the door. I like that relaxed style. That, and they're adorable. Puppies are too, but I can't resist an adorable kitten... :3

Oh yes, cats.
Mainly because I took in an adorable stray as a teenager.
I like dogs too, just not as much as cats.

Cat person. I've never met a cat I didn't get along with (although I'm sure some exist, somewhere). I have met many dogs who take offense to my general presence, and I'm not entirely certain why. That, and two of my neighbors have had, at one time or another, EXTREMELY yappy, ultra territorial dogs the drove me nuts (and a third who had a larger breed who literally chased me for having the gall to be on the other side of the street as it). I never took any action against them, but I shed no tears when they finally stopped (not sure if the people moved or the dogs died or what).

I find it's mostly the small dogs I dislike. Some of the larger breeds get along well enough with me, and I'm very partial to huskies. Cats tend to like me more though, and they're much less hassle to feed and care for.
