I'm a cat person. I grew up with the sweetest little kitty. They're cute, cuddly, curious, sweet, they have genuine personalities, they're adventurous, they're fun, and they're a bit cheeky.
I also disagree with the idea of dogs showing genuine love and care. Dogs a pack creatures, and they live in a hierarchical system. They generally see their owner as a substitute for the alpha dog, and I wouldn't consider that loyalty the equivalent of love. Forming a relationship with a cat on the other hand, takes time, trust and care, much like a human relationship.
I find myself disagreeing with nearly everything you write there, kind sir. First, I think cats are much smarter than dogs. I've seen cats singlehandedly solve problems, and read about many more instances of this. What makes dogs good in police and rescue services isn't intelligence. It's obedience, and those dogs have been trained to the detail of how to do what they do. They didn't come up with this behavior, they were trained. I find your example of soviets sending a dog into space silly, because the dog didn't do anything. The soviets have, in the same manner, sent inanimate objects into space. (If you have an example of a dog solving a problem on his own, a link would be very much appreciated).matnatz said:I've seen plenty of dogs survive on their own.
Anyways, dogs, in my opinion are smarter. Cats, to me, rely mostly on instinct, not to mention that dogs have in the past solved puzzles similar to what you give to a primate. The Soviets even sent a dog into space and the police, military and rescue services use dogs all the time.
And aside from all of that, dogs have always shown genuine love and care towards me, cats have not. Dogs are also much more interesting, have more personality, provide security and they don't walk all over your kitchen surfaces. And anyways, how often do cats save peoples lives?
