I follow a lot of criteria of a hipster but I don't actively pursue being one.

But I liked being hipster back when it was underground. Now it's too mainstream.

jesus how do all these people not know what a hipster is? granted they aren't "mainstream"..

but still, they are a very clear and easily noticed sub-type

OT: Nope, nowhere near it at all, while i don't discriminate against anything indie, generally i don't care for anything that hipsters like at all (and yes there are tons of em swarming in my area now...it's not good...)

Calling Hipsters main stream is so mainstream.
Calling something mainstream is so mainstream.

Blech, can't stand hipsters. There's nothing more ignorant than liking something just because few others know about it, they think they're geeks because they've played one Zelda game in thier life (seriously, Zelda's become hipster-fodder since they started...THOSE BASTARDS) and the wretched hive of scum and villainy known as tumblr is both their nesting ground and the thorn in my ass.

There was this one time when I met a guy (friend of a friend of a mine) and he was all "I'm a total hipster" so I spent the next hour or so saying things like "Oh, I bet the flyers for the band in which you sing and play bass are done up by an Asian graphic designer who rides a scooter and wears headphones"...oddly enough alot of the time I was right (relax guys, he was one of those jerks who thought I was a wierdo just for the fact that at the time I was about half-way through the original Star Trek series).

I have a lot of the qualities and tastes of a hipster but I in no way judge or look down on other people, and I admire artists who are considered mainstream for reaching out to so many people and succeeding; so no, I am most definitely not a hipster.

Seems like I answer for the first part but I have zero interest in fashion, every form of it. I actually despise any form of fashion whether it's mainstream or hipster (which pretty much became mainstream already). Also I hate the worshiping of indie music and everything pretty much.

Round here if you're a hipster you're getting into galleries and shit so you'd have to be one to be an exhibiting artist. Sadly I'm not and thus I don't tend to get into exhibitions. However, my not being a hipster confirms that my work isn't some bullshit conceptual garbage with an artistic process that is dull, boring and painful.

Hipsters round here need to have Apple everything because they're sooo innovative ... they don't know the first difference between Apple's misleading sales pitching and Microsoft's misleading sales pitching. Also with your Apple, you need starbux ... and if you don't like coffee then you have to at least like tea. You have to drink pabst or cheaper beer or boxed wine. Also, you have to wear a hat most of your life.

I hate hipsters; therefore, transitively, I hate Apple, starbux, pabst and hats.
Apple is considered hipster? I've always hated that company partially because they make all of their products look the same, which is downright creepy in a 1984/Fahrenheit 451 kind of way.

I hate starbucks because their coffee isn't even that good (except for that store-stuff in cans and bottles).

PBR is decent when you're strapped for cash but still makes up the foundation of shit beers.

...I do like having my fedora.

Hell no! I like to be different, I like to stand out from everyone else, but I couldn't imagine being the type of person who only likes things that hardly anybody else likes.

I was once told I was a hipster because I "try" to be different. :/ This seemed odd to me as I don't try to be different. X.X Frankly, I've met hipsters and I am certainly not one. -.-

Edit: This
Hipsters do things because they're "ironic". I do things because I want to.

Liking your fedora makes you a hipster in the same way that liking star wars makes you a nerd. It doesn't, there's just more to it than that. I seriously doubt your a hipster merely because you have the brainpower and rational thinking to consider yourself one.

I think hipster is one of the most undefined stereotypes, no one can quite agree on what a hipster is, but personally I think it's someone who wants or enjoys being different to the point that they will go out of there way just to be different.
