I seem to go in phases, although my default status is something of a semi-lurk. Sometimes I'm more active, but I'm very much inclined to go into full lurk.

Occasionally a lurking phase will be triggered by, or at least coincide with, the rise of a 'personality' who makes the forum generally a less pleasant place to be. More often it'll be triggered by some stupid trend that gets on my nerves - the zombie obsession was tedious, the 'last ___ you ____ is now ____' thing (y'know, "the last enemy you killed in a game is now dating your sister" or whatever) that's been going on for the past month or two is teeth-grindingly irritating, the problems in the Publisher's Club forum... all that sort of stuff. I find these forum irritants are generally best ignored, disappearing until it stops is a pretty effective solution.

Of course, often I'll read through a topic with every intention of replying, only to find that one or more people have already said exactly what I wanted to say. No point responding if it just amounts to "I agree" and brings nothing else to the discussion. The other thing I do regularly is write out a good, worthwhile response but delete it before posting. Usually this happens when it's a bit of a rant about something - often it's cathartic enough just to write it, by which point the moment is gone and there's no real need to post it out there so I just abandon it.

Probably also worth noting that I was using the site for a full year before I ever bothered to sign up an account.

Sometimes I'll read a thread and reply if it's interesting, and other times I'll just be lurkin' in the shadows.

I was until this comment. I came here for the Zero Punctuation, and stayed for a lot of other things. On the whole, I don't lurk too often in forums. Contributions are a lot more fun that observing from the internet peanut gallery.

i'm a huge lurker. I make comments every now and then and sometime i will start a meaningful discussion but my meaningful discussions often get bumped by generic unoriginal overly done discussion topics

Two years, 4 months of hitting the escapist forums daily, and this marks post 209. I could very well be the biggest lurker on the site. Easily within the 95th percentile for amount of lurkitude anyways.
I think I may have you beat...

I post when I'm interested. Sometimes I'm interested though and the thread has gone on for ages with 50 people already saying what I was going to say so I leave it.

Otherwise I just have a bit of a "lurk".

I've been lacking time to give in-depth replies to some of the posts I read, so I'm steadily becoming a bigger lurker. If I can't contribute something at least a tiny bit meaningful, I'll just pass it over. Also, I abide by a "don't post when angry" rule, so sometimes, when I see posts so full so ignorance and disrespect, it just irks, and I'll close the tab before I do any damage. ^_^
Still try to post from time to time, though, of course, but the sheer amount of posts that come through here is staggering, and I just don't have the time and energy to keep up.

I take the approach, "If you don't have anything to say/write, stop talking/writing." So I'll check a few threads, see what a few people have talked about (up to around the second page) and if I feel my opinion has been stated enough times then I am just wasting space by saying, "I agree with posters X, Y and Z." Otherwise it might be a topic that I really do not have much input because I do not know it in and out. So I'll read other people's opinions so I can understand the concept better.

I prefer to remain a Hydralisk. :)

I lurk a lot, which is better than repeating what someone said or saying something boring and inconsequential. I don't consider it a bad thing.
I see what you did there. I see what you did. *Claps*

As a lurker I tend to hide underground around choke points and take great joy in slaughtering huge numbers of marines and zerglings. Mineral fields are fun to burrow behind as well.

I lurk alot. Until something interesting comes along, or im sufficiently bored.
