Of course I don't...if I did I'd be a creationist. I don't really see what you're getting at.

The problem is these scriptures are open to interpretation. Who are you to say that your moderate interpretation of the bible is more accurate than a literal one? Or a violent one? Ambiguous statements and actions supposedly from a divine being (whether taken literally or not) are easily used to justify horrific acts.

Even if you take the bible as stories for moral guidance (as most people do), what was the lesson to be learned at Sodom and Gomorrah? What about the Hadith teachings about killing infidels, or the awful Koran verses preaching sexual inequality?

There are a lot of morally good religious people in the world, but I think it's far more accurate to say that they're good in spite of their religion, not because of it.
