I see it the same way I see my love for movies or books, it's something I enjoy but it doesn't define me.

Why is everyone wearing Gaming as some sort of badge of honor? If the TC isn't into talking about the fact that he plays games then why should anyone care? I play games a lot and have always have and will always continue to do so but i'm not about blurting it out to strangers or bringing it up out of the blue.

I mean I also don't shout about my love of porn across hallways either

i only avoid talking about games if i'm trying to make a good first impression on someone i dont know well. after that, if they dont like it, they can shove it.

I can't even...is this...what? Surely you must be joking. (and don't call me Shirley.)

Are you that insecure with yourself that you can't even speak about this stuff openly? I'd be more offended if you pulled me down as a friend and talked about me like you are on here. Seriously, grow up. 250 friends on fb? Grats bro. *shakes head*.

I'm a gamer and damn proud of it.
What you're essentially saying is that everyone should be comfortable in their own skin, and it's ridiculous for someone to try to be someone they are not. I agree, and I think most people would agree, but it's absolutely not reality. I've known more than a few gamers who were uncomfortable with revealing the depth of their nerdiness to anyone -- including people who play games, but not as much as them. These people exist, and it makes this a relevant question. That said, it's ridiculous for someone to try to be someone they are not. The anecdote in the OP is, honestly, depressing.
We are on the same page for most of this discussion, saying it's not reality is ridiculous to me. The more I'm me, the happier I am. I'm glad I don't shape myself to be someone I'm not. I couldn't live with myself if I did. I've known people who were embarrassed by it for sure, but I never could be friends with someone like the OP who just....said what he said.
