When I visited a one of a couple of caves in Tasmania, the guide turned out the lights for a minute, plunging us into pitch-blackness.

I commented afterwards how relaxing it was.

I'm not as much scared of the dark as I am aggravated than I can't see shit, so I can't plan for anything, and have to stumble about and trust dumb luck. Icky.

Not so much scared as, disquieted, most of the time I'm fine, but being in the dark really puts me on edge.
Its not the darkness that really freaks me out though, and its not really a fear of what might happen to me, rather its a fear of how I got to the darkness in the first place.

Turning off my lights to go to sleep == not scary.

Waking up in the middle of the night in a dark basement with no memory of how I got there == scary.

I'm comfortable in the dark. It's unlikely that there's something nastier than me in it, and however much it hampers me, everyone else is much worse affected by it usually.

When I was a wee little lad, I was scared stiff of the dark.

Especially when I saw Jeepers Creepers 2. ._.

And then Darkness Falls. >~>

Not the best of films to watch when you're a kid.

Now, not so much. I could wander in the dark without troubles.

And then I played Alan Wake, hen I took the flashlight with me. This was 3 years ago.

Now I take a flashlight with me out of habit. >.>

I see. And what do you think? Are the threads Ive been creating lately have discussion value?
...Yes?

Am I missing something here? I feel like I'm being interrogated now. D:

Your threads are fine! Carry on, citizen! *swoops away*
Well, since you're a moderator its kinda more important for me to hear what a moderator thinks about what I do on the forum than what a normal member thinks. ALso....you mentioned I create a lot of threads, and I was just wondering what did you mention that for. No worries though, I didnt mean to interrogate you.
Modcat, just noticin' stuff....

Never doubt the opinions of other users as well. I'm just a normal person like you at the end of the day. o:
Nonsense, You're a spiderperson at the very least :D

OT: Nope. Not afraid of the dark now and never was as a child (in my memory). To me the dark was always something beautiful to be thought upon and enjoyed.
Sometimes also very useful for sneaking :)

It's funny, I'm not usually afraid of the dark but if my wife's out of town the house just feels weird without her there. I always double check the doors are locked before I go to sleep.

It really depends. I usually feel almost more ok in the dark (at least, up to a point) and I seem to deal with it just fine. It does depend on my mood and mindset though. If I'm not feeling particularly lucid, or haven't had a great time it can seriously put me on edge in a bad way.

I like hiding. In a fight, my strategy would probably go along the lines of a knee to the bollocks followed by five minutes of legging it while looking for a good hiding place. Hence, I like the dark.

Lifelong fear of the dark here. I only care about the weather if it could possibly put the lights. Am I ashamed? Nope. Everyone is afraid of something ridiculous (as they could be ridiculed for it) in my group of friends it mostly seems to be eminent collapse of the economy resulting in a world were owning multi firearms and learning survival skills is more important than anything I do. I ridicule them over that silliness as much as they ridicule my fear of the dark. They are equal under my system of math.

But my phobia of spiders...and bugs in general combined the other six or seven phobia I just happen not to tell people about pretty much makes any argument I make about phobia or paranoid thinking completely void. Am ashamed of my phobia? Hmmm, well I that is a question for past and future me, I hate/envy/pity those mes so much.

Edit: Although oddly I'm not afraid of the dark outside, even in creepy forests. Inside though, wow if the lights even dim slightly I get paranoid. Is that a thing or am I just extra crazy?

Everyone is to a degree, if even subconsciously. The reason is because it's human nature to be afraid of the the unknown, and for good reason. We were eaten and hunted by many things during our evolution. If you aren't wary of the unknown, then don't be proud; you're the kind of person who would be picked off first. Thankfully most humans now live at distance from the few remaining animals that eat us.

So in short I don't believe anyone who voted absolutely not. It's like saying you don't understand how people can kiss/you would never do it, or you've never laughed in your life; basically denying the building blocks of being the type of animal we are.

Not afraid of the dark at all. I have half a dozen Fenix E01 flashlights, one of which I carry on me at all times. It uses a single common AAA battery and has a chip-regulated Nichia LED bulb, sealed into the head. The E01 body is hard anodized and waterproof to around 1 meter. I also have four LED lanterns, all of them with hi-lo bulb capabilities. I also carry a 3D LED Maglite in the car, as well as an LED headlamp. Next to my bed is a 4D LED Maglite with a quick-change red lens for low-light vision retention.

Welcome to hurricane country.

I'm just afraid of the dark to the point where I get more cautious (this is assuming I'm not in my home, as I could walk through it blindfolded.) I'm much more likely to go into self-defense mode when I can't clearly gauge the threat level of a stray noises or fleeting image of something. Not that my 'self-defense mode' is any more then fleeing or possible fighting dirty if I'm cornered.

The only darkness I fear is the one in my soul. MUHAHAHAHA!

Nah, I'm more just worried I'll trip over or stand on something. My dog is black, so he often falls victim to being stood on when I couldn't be arsed to turn on the lights.

I'm not afraid of the dark. However, I still sleep with a nightlight because pitch blackness is really weird/disorientating and I like the idea of being able to see should I wake up in the middle of the night for whatever reason.

Semi-related, I absolutely shit myself in power outages. Something about them just really gets to me.

When I was a kid, well when everyone was a kid I bet we all had this scenario:
"Bathroom feels like a mile away from your bed. Between the bed and bathroom is the O so scary darkness. You turn off the lights and book it to the bed like there is a friking monster behind you. You jump in the bed get under the sheets and feel invincible." - Memories.

Other then that, I have parts of my hometown that are creepy abandoned farm houses. Driving through there, is where I'm afraid of the dark.
Place looks like the set of House of 1,000 Corpses, damn goosebumps.

The scariest thing I find about complete darkness is that I might stub my toe into something, trip badly, or the worst of the worst - step on one of my little brothers' lego blocks (the meme's are right, it hurts like fuck -_-).

Otherwise I love the darkness. Can't really sleep if there is the slightest amount of light in my room (includes moonlight, or even an electronic device that is charging). There is something amazingly peaceful about darkness that I find almost...serene.
I especially love strolls in the night especially if there is a light breeze, away from street lights.
