If the answer for you is no, I want to know why you don't see the point in getting 100% completion out of a game when you've paid for it.

If the answer for you is yes however, what would you do in this situation:
A new FPS game has just been released (we'll just use CoD6:MW2 as an example here). It's got a campaign with a few difficulty levels (in this case ranging from easy to really easy lol..) with hidden collectables along the way and then a seperate challenge section with various skill testing elements that also have different difficulties. How do you go about achieveing 100% completion? (Assuming all achievements can be unlocked without online multiplayer*)

I'd personally take the campaign on the hardest difficulty first to knock all the difficulty achievements out of the water, and then go back on the easiest difficulty to scour the levels for the collectables. Then play through the challenges until I die of frustration or complete all the challenges, and then any achievements I haven't got can be picked up fairly easily (things people might have missed like for example the 'Look My Two Hands' achievement for killing people with akimbo weapons*)

What would you all do though?

I pick my battles, sometimes I decide "Okay, I'm going to get 100% in this game, finish it all the way and kick ass!" but sometimes I'd just rather play the game until I'm finished myself and take it easy. I do think that I am a bit of an achievement whore at times but hey, it's not hurting anyone. *Shrugs*

Usually I'm not. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't go out of my way to get the Pacifist achievement in Human Revolution. I think it's the only time I've ever cared about an achievement. Like I said in another thread, I just love the fact that a game made today will give you that option.

No, not really.

If I get one out of the blue then, hey, cool beans. And if I see an opportunity to quickly nab one then I'll usually go for it. But I don't go out of my way for them. It's just not worth the effort.

As for why I don't always go for 100% on something I paid for... well, if I'm not enjoyed the experience of going for 100%, why the hell would I do so? I paid for an entertainment/fiction product, not a boredom generator.

An analogy: Just say you walk into a restaurant and order a meal, say... a whopping great big greasy slice of oven-baked lasagne. You get the meal. You eat the meal. It's really nice. Then you get desert, say... a big slice of chocolate mud cake. But halfway through the cake you start feeling overly full and a bit sick. Do you keep eating just because you payed for it, even though you're no longer enjoying it? Hell no. That would be stupid.

Sticking with your analogy:
I'm an achievement whore then, because I'm poor.

You learn something new every day!

Nah, don't see the point. If there's one that I'm close to (like kill X amount of enemies with Y) then I might go for it though.

No. If I stumble upon an achievement, then cool, but I don't really give a shit either way.

No. But, after I finish a game, I sometimes pick a random achievement and go for it. I'm currently doing the Transmission Recieved achievement in Portal, also, getting the more difficult achievements in Atom Zombie Smasher, and almost have the One Week achievement in Garrys Mod.

I'm fond of trophies, although the ones that require multiple playthroughs or at least an insane amount of time investment irk me. Like all the ones for getting 10,000 damage with different types of weapons in Fallout: New Vegas, or the companion achievements in Mass Effect. Since trophies don't have any real purpose beyond bragging rights, I won't go out of my way to get them.

When starting out this generation of games, I thought I would never get into them but I slowly got indoctrinated into loving them.

I'll go for 100% completion if i really like the game, and the trophies are actually possible within a lifetime. At first i just play the game to play the game, after i beat it i go for the trophies.

I went for yes, but I just unlocked the "With a Little Cherry On Top" achievement in Chime (obtain 100 companion cubes), which I'd been trying to get for a couple of weeks now.

That being said, with little gaming time on hand, I can't always invest sufficient time to get 100% of achievements, even though I *wil* try (still trying to get some of the achievements I've been aiming for in Mount & Blade...).

If you have a high love of theft/money coupled with a high love for dicking around, then getting those achievements is easy, I got screwed over by the 'heal 10000 points with food items' that really got me...

Every time I take a break from whichever network I'm using and then go back with a fresh acount I tell myself 'It's just for fun, my achievements/trophies don't matter, it's just fun.' it never lasts though...xD

The only Achievements I will go out of my way to get are the ones with amusing names (see: My Brother is an Italian Plumber from Borderlands) or have some tangible in-game benefit to go with them (can't think of one off hand), the rest I don't really care if I get or not.

What is Mount and Blade like? I've been looking at buying it once I repair my gaming computer.
And yea, not having the time is a pain, but it makes it all the sweeter when you do finally get those tricky achievements, wouldn't you agree?

That Borderlands achievement was a fun one to get, quite imaginative as well compared to the generic 'Go here, shoot this' achievements I'm used to seeing.

It depends on the game really. I'm more likely to try and get all the achievements, or come as close to it as possible, for a game I really like. If it's a game I don't really care for, or just "like," then seldom do I see the point in achievements.
