Today my school was literally bombarded with Greenpeace ads and promotional materials. I personally dislike the way Greenpeace and most of the other environmentalist organizations prove their point.

So far all that Greenpeace did in my city was protest, protest, whine, shout, block a road and kept calling us murderers. But enough about Greenpeace. I'm curious how many escapists are convinced environmentalist. As in love nature and join non-profit organizations in the support of Earth.

Are you fighting for our planet? Are you very wasteful and don't care? Personally I am trying not to waste resources, but I do it more for myself than for the planet, so I don't have to pay a bigger electricity/garbage bill. (But I'm all for solar/wind power and anything non-polluting, as long as it doesn't cost us a fortune...like it usually does).

Greenpeace? You mean eco-terrorist?

I concede to the point that we should attempt to curb environment damage. I believe, however, that the notion that we can destroy this planet is perhaps the most arrogant statement imaginable.

I also don't think the environment can be saved by sabotaging power plants, harassing corporations, and badgering the populace.

Fuck Greenpeace.

Quoted for the truth. They also protested against one of our nuclear power plants...which they use to power their headquarters. Some of the biggest hypocrites on the planet.

I'd like to sum up my opinions with a quote from Boston Legal:

"I'm here to enjoy nature. Don't talk to me about the environment." - Denny Crane

This sums up my thoughts on it. I'm all for moderate consumption of our finite resources, but pretending that it's for any other cause than our own immediate survival is deluded, self-aggrandizing hypocrisy.

I agree on certain points and disagree on others. I believe that we need to reduce the human population drastically, stop fucking up ecosystems and find a better way to deal with our trash. Not so sure about greenhouse gases, definitely pro-nuclear [until we find a better alternative or the population falls].

But the biosphere has recovered from worse than what we are doing [cyanobacteria killing off most anaerobes, for example]. If we go extinct, we deserve it. If we don't, we will learn a very harsh lesson. The planet ultimately doesn't care, despite the wholesale misinterpretation of Lovelock's Gaia Hypothesis by hippies.
Short of complete nuclear annihilation, nothing will stop life. Even that mightn't do it, knowing those crafty extremophiles.

I take steps to help the environment. I drive 55mph to save gas. I am pro-nuclear, to get the US off Oil Dependant nature. I recycle my beer and soda cans.

I dislike environmentalist. I guarantee that the 'protest' did more harm to the environment then whatever your school did. They unlawfully attack peoples views and have engaged in acts of literal piracy.

I like the environment and care for it. I do not like the nut jobs environmentalist

[read: sad sigh]OK, I will ask. How do we legally and morally lower the human population? Because many people would literally go to war if you. and while the ensuing war would lower the population some, war is not a good solution.

Someone find me the quote from Monty Burns about environmentalism. It was something along the lines of nature fighting a war against nature and losing for the past million, but now that we are finally winning we have to play nice or something.

I like to consider myself an environmentalist, but only to a minor extent. I don't go out of my way to protect the environment, but if there's some way I can conserve I'll usually do it.

I do understand that we only get one chance with this planet, but another thing I understand is that human impact is almost negligible in a lot of regards compared to Mother Nature herself.

Every single time a volcano erupts? Yeah, that spews more greenhouse gases into the air than human beings have over the last 200 years.

When Betelgeuse goes supernova? Yeah the earth's temperature is going to rise by more than the entire duration of humans being on the planet. Plus, global warming is just normally 99% natural anyway-- the earth's average temperature rises and falls like a wave; we just happen to be on an upswing right now.

edit: Also, Captain Planet

I have no problem with Greenpeace and actually think them getting people's faces is exactly what must be done, though admittedly violence is taking it to far. Simply not enough people care. Global Warming in particular is becoming a crisis situation, but most people are far to selfish to put the slightest bit of effort into averting it. So, given the situation, I am fully in support of Greenpeace's actions here.

My local council, a while ago, brought out a recycling bin. Okay, bought another bin which is sat in the kitchen, then they got another bin service. If we really have to.

Third and fourth services were brought out about July last year, and they can fuck off. I'm all for helping the planet but you can't start expecting people to make any more than small compromises, else theyll give up entirely. Its like having a game with no tutorial, and the only setting is Hard- After a while you'll just say "sod this" and give up.

Fifth service (metal) is in the pipeline.

PS. LOL at the captcha: From sbwriel. Sbwriel is the Welsh for rubbish...

There is no point. The planets enviroment has changed in the past without humans and will still change. Its nature. I also hate the saying "save the planet" becuase the earth will still be hear after we all all dead. Even if no life can live on it the planet will be hear.
