*gets cane*
Kids these days don't know nothing 'bout no vidja games. In my day we had to ask around to get cheat codes to beat that one boss, and nobody knew that someone was gonna die! Multiplayer meant 3 other friends at your house having a blast, now it just means some 12 year old hoodlum bad mouthin' you till the cows come home! The protagonists in our games were furry animal dudes who were fun to play as and hear them talk, not beefy macho men who only want to kill kill kill!

Damn kids these days...[sub]grumble grumble...[/sub]

:) I am quite proud of that one.
To be honest I'm not so much disappointed in my generation as disappointed that the quieter, more sensible members of my generation are harder to find online. I've seen people I know who play first person shooters without uttering an RL peep. It's mainly because they're concentrating on the game but also it is not widely known that young people visiting their parents on holiday don't want to wake up their parents from their well earned Summer Holiday Slumber.

Anyway, I enjoyed Noby Noby Boy and Tekken 6 last year, not to mention I managed to play Final Fantasy VII for the first time in my life and only had it spoiled for me two hours after I started playing.

I'm more disappointed in the "epic fail" culture that seems to be arising in us Gen Y'ers, if a game isn't perfect or you don't like the idea of it there's a tendency to just go "EPIC FAIL" and ignore it regardless of merit. We can't all blame Yahtzee for this - we've been like this ever since Homestar Runner put the seeds of cynicism in our heads.

I'm not gonna be disappointed if other people have fun playing games, even if I don't like those games.

I'm disappointed with elitist gamers that treat it all as srs bzns.

The only thing that matters to me is whether a game is fun and entertaining or not.
Same with me. I don't much care for people [the majority of people on here, no offense] who hate on JRPGs...darn FPS fans! >.< There's nothing wrong with them, if you don't like them don't mention them.

I think the a game with good gomeplay and good story is amazing, and that good graphics and multiplayer are add-ons. You don't need good graphics, but if you can't see anything other than polygons or 8-bit thingys, then we've got an issue. Multiplayer is really only good if it's Splitscreen.

I will never be disappointed in gamers, unless they kill someone. I might draw the line there.

I am for the most part disappointed with this generation of gaming. My beloved Nintendo failed me with the Wii, graphics have actually become more important than gameplay in many people's minds, the FPS, which I have always found to be a very dull and shallow genre, is now the dominant genre, and literally 90% of games are sequels, remakes, or spinoffs. Going back and playing games like Ocarina of Time and Chrono Trigger really made me realize how much better video games used to be.

Extremely disappointed. Last generation wasn't this bad. Now it's just sad to read a comment about a review.

I'm not dissapointed because.. uhh... wait, yeah. I am dissapointed. I can't step into any online game without being ridiculed for not being a perfect player ;_;
That's how it always is in console games. Rarely does that happen when I play on the PC. Rarely, not never.
its opposite for me, i've hopped on l4d2 and diablo 2 many times and gotten spam messaged the fuck out of for not doing peak performance, then they end up leaving and makin a new room or host

then again i completely rape with joysticks so i never have to worry on the console, and i never *****, i get my kills and try and help out, so a win in my book for me

I posted "sorta" because the current generation of gamers is actually cross-generation. We have gamers in their 30's and 40's, as well as the newer gamers in their teens and 20's.

So I'm not entirely disappointed with the older gamers, for the most part, but the younger crowd is sort of a barometer of society as a whole and how things are progressing.

When I played WoW I usually didn't have to worry about established adults calling everything "ghai" or saying "F U" if the raid leader told them they couldn't come on the raid because they were 45 minutes late (the adults typically were never 45 mins late besides the Aussies on occasion).

It's just a great disparity between generations, and what is perceived as "cool" by today's teens and young adults doesn't seem the same as what was perceived as "cool" by my generation (next generation up). And what my generation perceived as "cool" is not the same as the gamers who are in their 40's-50's etc (next generation up from that).

I'm disappointed in the leet scene and the fact that gamers feel it's cool to degrade other gamers because they think it makes them look "grown up" - and yes I've seen people in their 30's degrade other gamers for absolutely no reason, so I'm not just calling up younger gamers.

However, for every community that's filled with trolls and vitriol there is a community where the trolling is kept to a minimum, and people genuinely want to help for the sake of helping.

Sounds crazy, but it's true. I have a forum I frequent and we have maybe one flame war a year, at most one every 6 months. It's the little things like that that remind me that even though the internet's broader accessibility means more stupid people are now using it, not all places on the internet are a waste of time.

So *wall of text crits you for 9k* yes, I'm sort of disappointed in this generation of gamers.

I'm not dissappointed. It's not like I love every gamer out there, it's rather that I have very low expectations. The fact that gaming is becoming more and more mainstream has its sideeffects. Like bad games, retarded fanbase, etc.

Basically, gamers are people and a majority of people are idiots. Do the math.

I wish gaming never became so widely popular. The internet as well. It kicked ass when there was no facebook and other plague ridden social bullshit.

I don't mind them, 'though I consider (Warning, elitism imminent) the Escapist sort of class of gamer to be a different sort. We appreciate games more, and buy them for reasons other than being popular. Also, the blatant racism, homophobia and douchebaggery online irritates me so.

I agree with this guy too. As good as it is for the industry that gaming has become more mainstream, we've lost our sort of social niche, as lots of people play games nowadays.

I personally think anyone who voted they are disappointed should take off those rose colored glasses.

edit: I'm 25, and having been gaming for a while now.
