I posted "sorta" because the current generation of gamers is actually cross-generation. We have gamers in their 30's and 40's, as well as the newer gamers in their teens and 20's.
So I'm not entirely disappointed with the older gamers, for the most part, but the younger crowd is sort of a barometer of society as a whole and how things are progressing.
When I played WoW I usually didn't have to worry about established adults calling everything "ghai" or saying "F U" if the raid leader told them they couldn't come on the raid because they were 45 minutes late (the adults typically were never 45 mins late besides the Aussies on occasion).
It's just a great disparity between generations, and what is perceived as "cool" by today's teens and young adults doesn't seem the same as what was perceived as "cool" by my generation (next generation up). And what my generation perceived as "cool" is not the same as the gamers who are in their 40's-50's etc (next generation up from that).
I'm disappointed in the leet scene and the fact that gamers feel it's cool to degrade other gamers because they think it makes them look "grown up" - and yes I've seen people in their 30's degrade other gamers for absolutely no reason, so I'm not just calling up younger gamers.
However, for every community that's filled with trolls and vitriol there is a community where the trolling is kept to a minimum, and people genuinely want to help for the sake of helping.
Sounds crazy, but it's true. I have a forum I frequent and we have maybe one flame war a year, at most one every 6 months. It's the little things like that that remind me that even though the internet's broader accessibility means more stupid people are now using it, not all places on the internet are a waste of time.
So *wall of text crits you for 9k* yes, I'm sort of disappointed in this generation of gamers.
