As far as I know, game is an entertainment medium. If it's fun for them, it's a good game for them. I don't consider any game that's not fun to play as a good game. chances are people who likes good graphics and whatnot in games are just as intelligent as people who like storytelling and atmosphere. Just different level of simplicity they prefer in their entertainment.

so I guess my answer is no

I'd have to say that I'm not disappointed in the entire generation, but with a large percentage of them... mostly the ones who mod and cheat (of course, you'll find those tards at any point in history), like my room mate's little 15 year old cousin who I want to punch in the head every day because he won't shut up about how AWESOME modded controllers are and how he glitched his account on MW2 to get 10th prestige or some shit

learn to play the fucking game if you want the rewards, otherwise go fuck yourself.

and yes, I really do want to punch my room mate's cousin in the head, that's not an expression, that's the dream I have every other night... followed by the nightmare where I'm out of caffeine and money

addendum: not to be a prick, but you spelled disappointed wrong, 2 Ps, 1 S

They hate your generation...

Sorry about that,
but I'm not dissappointed. All of the idiots have flocked to Modern Warfare 2's online, so now I don't have to deal with them on anything else.
My thoughts exactly. I had wondered where all the annoying little kids and stoner retards went until I borrowed MW2 for a few days. Glad I never bought the game.

I've got nothing against the next gen of gamers. They may not care about the history of gaming but then again neither did I at that age. They may care more about graphics than story but so did my gen to an extent (They look like real people! I love the N64!). They are little worse than we were way back when. Hell, I'm not even worried about the gen after that! My friend's 3 year old kid is pretty damn good at Wolverine; I'm interested to see what kind of gaming environment he'll grow up in.

Yeah. I'm one of the last remaining "90's Gamer" type guys out there. It's depressing when you look at it. I prefer the simpler times when a game didn't need to be online to be good, didn't need to have achievements to increase replay value, didn't need to have a fuck-ton of marketing, didn't need a billion polygons up the ass, a physics engine and a dark brown color scheme.

You can't honestly say that the games of today are "too derivative." Then I would ask, what would that make Castlevania? Mario? Megaman? They were platformers, sure, but would it be fair to call them out on that in spite of the fact that they had differences in terms of gameplay? You can apply the same thing to people who constantly ***** about third person/first person shooters/free-roaming games.

What's happening to shooters and free roaming games in general is very similar to what happened to platformers and beat em ups in the late 80's early 90's. They experienced a massive boom in popularity that eventually, more people wanted those genres.

The problem with the new generation of gamers is that there's alot more of them -- meaning gamers, on balance, know less about the industry than they would've ten years ago; games having extended their appeal beyond 'nerds' (this, of course, affecting what types of games publishers decide to finance) -- and that they receive their gaming information more from marketing firms than would've been possible in the past, as there was, for example, comparatively few commercials for games in 1995 (meaning the appeal of titles was based more on word-of-mouth praise).

Why should I be dissapointed?
I kinda missed the point of your post actually. So, liking Modern Warfare 2 makes me a dissapointing gamer? Why?
Yes, people jump on bandwagons but, hell, they always did that. I don't like Modern Warfare 2 just because everyone else does, I like it because it is a wonderful mixture of my favorite movie of all-time (The Rock) and my favorite game of all-time (Call Of Duty 4). Does that make me worse in any way?
Just means you are happy with a low standard of game, meaning there is less incentive for devs to make better games, resulting in gamers who want quality getting pissed off at a lack of it in the market.
Nope, it just means that tastes differ.
Modern Warfare 2 is about as high of standart as I can think of.

I am disappointed in the current generation of gamers because of the blatant generalisations and narrowmindedness that exists on this forum and nothing more.

People lock themselves into particular ideas and can't seem to see anything other than those.

They also can't accept even the slightest criticism of anything, without assuming the person making this criticism is either a fanboy or a "hater" whos just "bashing" it. I love certain things to death but I can admit the flaws in them, people who can't admit flaws in the things they love are the real fanboys... in my opinion.

Let's just say I would be even more disappointed if Mario series, Nintendo, and Miyamoto was all that mattered like it did in the past.

Reasons I can't stand watching Bob's overthinker and AVGN sometimes...-_-

Modern Warfare 2 is about as high of standart as I can think of.
The storyline is abysmal - more holes than in fishnet stockings.
The graphics are also very dated and 640p unscaled to 720p sucks massive ass.
As for the maps - uninspired and bland, not to mention, hideous balance issues with multiplayer, plus, where's the dedicated servers?
If that's as high a standard as you can think, Resistance 2 or Killzone 2 would blow you away.
Screw dedicated servers, I never cared for them and never will.
The maps are allright.
I got into the storylime even though it wasn't that important.
The graphics look gorgeous.
I can't prove you wrong and you can't prove me wrong.
It's a matter of opinions.
P.S. I played Killzone 2. Modern Warfare 2 is superior.

I avoid multiplayer like the plague. So it doesn't bother me...everyone has the right to be a jackass if they want to.

It does irk me a little bit to see the following sorts of 'reviews' gamers post on certain websites:

1. "No multiplayer? This is shit!"

2. "[fill in totally different genre game name here] is better. This game sucks!"

3. "[fill in system name the reviewed game is on here] sucks. [fill in another system name here] is way better. This game is crap!"

4. "Graphics look like from [some relatively small number] years ago, this is total shit!"

But for the most part, I really don't pay attention to them.

Exactly - you don't care about lag, which renders skill pointless, and is never a good thing. Plus you don't want to choose a map and the game mode. Yeah, because all the maps are superb in MW2....No, some are okay, some are awful
All right - again, my point, the maps are nothing more than okay, but some are really sh*tty e.g. base sub. One teams in white, the other in black..in snow. Great idea.
The graphics are awful. If you think they are gorgeous get uptodate with good graphics. 640p is really, really low resolution.
And how is MW2 superior to K2? It's graphics are worse, it has no dedicated servers, it has awful spawn points that result in cat & mouse killing, and much smaller teams.
Bet's are you just found K2 too hard.
First of all, graphics do not equal technology and that's why the ammount of detalization and the animations of MW2 put Killzone 2 on its knees.
How is MW2 superior to Killzone? Simple. It plays better. It controlled better. I (that's ME) liked it better.
I didn't find Killzone 2 hard, althought it was fairly challenging because the A.I. was fucking good. However, the argument "you found it too hard = you suck at it" is idiotic.
I had no, that's zero lag which caused by the game.
What the hell are we even arguing about? I liked it better, that's MY opinion. I think that while Killzone 2 is good, Modern Warfare 2 is fucking great.

People join on the bandwagon to much. Call of Duty 4 was good, but not MW2,
That right there is called an opinion, not a fact. Maybe so many people like it because it's good?
