After seeing the recent article regarding Extra Life recently I was wondering how many Escapists were participating. If you don't know Extra Life is a charity event where people get sponsored to play video games for 24 hours. Any money raised is donated to a charity for hospitalised children in the area of the gamers choice. I decided to get involved today and am playing for the England based NHS charity (sponsor me here if you want: http://www.extra-life.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.participant&participantID=42087). Ill be posting my experiences with it (I start at midnight tomorrow) as I'm gaming. If people would share their past experiences and those of this years event that would be brilliant.

I, too, am participating and have just met my minimum donation of 10000¥. I will of course be playing the full 24-hours and look forward to this with full gusto. However, I do not think that my "team" is doing as well as myself as of now. They either seem to have failed to grab any donations (Which are not mandatory by any means, but still are nice to have put forward.) or have forgotten and need constant reminders. But oh well, right?

I cannot wait for the event to start!~

Im participating! I gave myself a $500 buck goal, but only have $420 so far. But hey, it's better than nothing.

I was in last years event as well. It was tons of fun. My fiance and myself played Rift for the whole 24 hours. Trion did great in embracing the event. All participants took over a server (including the game devs), started at level 1 and went from there. I'm pretty sure the devs were drunk by the early morning, because they kept spamming server wide messages about MEEEEAD!
They also had naked runs from faction city to faction city, and a dance party at the end. It was pretty much amazing.

I was thinking about doing Rift again this year, even though I don't play the game anymore (I mean, they are putting in Corgi rifts!), but I dono... I guess I will see what I feel like playing tomorrow.

I'll consider it. Already playing video games Saturday anyway so why the hell not. How does it work though? Is it just friends and family that donate or is this streamed and people donate as you play? 'Cuz I'm kinda lacking in the friends/family department.

I can just imagine how my friends and family would react to this.

"Hey guys! I'm going to play videogames for 24 hours straight! give me money!"

"So you're playing an extra two hours more than usual this Saturday? Piss off, get a job."

Nope. Why would I want to play games for hospitalized children when I could just as well play games for myself without the hassle of a) streaming b) having to watch my language.
