Well, some aspects of my personality always shine through whenever I'm gaming, such as the need to explore every little nook and cranny (I'm inquisitive like that, can't help it) or being ultra-cautious about not wasting too much ammo/items (you know, the 'But I might need it later!' problem)...
But in the end I play games because my real life is serious enough and filled with a lot of dreary work, which I suppose is why I tend to pick up games that give me the opportunity of being someone I'm not or indeed cannot be (like in 'Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction', which I'm playing right now). Also, I stay away from games I find 'too realistic', such as as the contant tiring stream of WW2 games... I find that at some point being hyper-realistic is tantamount to lacking any creative spark at all, and if there's anything a game NEEDS to have it's creativity.
