If they would release an update that will stop the hardware from failing I would be excited. No more phone calls to UPS for me then. I am hoping putting games on the HD will contribute to less over heating issues. Not holding my breath though.

I have no idea what on earth the new xbox experience is, not even after reading your opening post.

Could you tell me?
Basically xbox is realising all new features in a update that is coming soon. The update includes avatars that everybody is saying is a rip-off of nintendo, a party system for you and 7 friends, changes to the dashboard like a diffrent meathod to see your achievments and more. http://www.xbox.com/en-AU/live/NXE/ is where microsoft have all of the infomation about it.

I'm not 'exited', or excited.

The NXE looks very immature, an imitation of the Wii perhaps. The Xbox has, I'm guessing, a more mature userbase than the Wii, and MS should reflect this in their software.

Seen as though 360 number 5 has jut died on me.......no.
you don't have to place your console in the fiery back sweat of a sunstricken italian to get the best performance out of it you know
Maybe you just haven't found the right Italian for the job yet.

Actually MS have loaded a special version of NXE for people who don't enjoy fun, it's basically just a CMD prompt and you have to run everything manually.
I agree it should be possible to live without Avatars but seriously how can you not want access to your Dashboard in game?

I'm looking forward to it. The fact you can burn games to the hard drive is good cause it means I can finally use my 120gb HDD, everything else seems to just make the system a bit more user friendly and speed up the xboxs performance.

I'd rather not see it myself...
I love the idea of installing the games to the hard-drive, but I hate the look of the new dashboard as I think it looks like a cheap knock-off of the PSP and PS3 ones and the whole avatar thing reeks of Nintendo's Mii's. Most of the rest of the new "features" are no good for me either, I'm in the UK so what fracking use is Netflix to me?

I don't need to be excited about it, I already have it.

It's better than the old system by far. Everything's quicker to access, less button presses away, prettier, and generally much improved.

[img_inline src='http://avatar.xboxlive.com/avatar/smith186/avatar-body.png']I've been in the preview program for a week (avatar on the right), and I've been impressed. There are a few parts I don't care for very much - some parts of the friends area, for example - and a few areas I haven't been able to really test, but overall it's very slick and welcome upgrade.

I believe Susan is planning on having a preview, with some video, up some time today.

My favorite part, by far, has been having Fallout 3 installed to the hard drive. The system is almost completely silent when not using the DVD drive.

I like the idea of 'installing' your games to your hard-drive but I don't know if it's really gonna be worth it.
Surely the fans will still be making lots of noise, regardless of wether the disc drive is working?
I will try it though, simply because I have the 120gb hard-drive and I lost my first 360 due to the disc drive breaking.

There's a lot to look forward to in my book. Not sleepless nights or taking Wednesday off to wait for it, but still pretty cool.

The hard drive game install is definitely cool, and I haven't heard any negatives about the new menu setup, and I'm indifferent to the avatar setup.

I'm not sure how many people on this forum have Netflix, but that's the big selling point for me. I'm looking forward to being able to stream movies and tv shows on my console.

Personally looking forward to the party chat system and the installation of games as my 360 is well over a year old i'm trying everything to keep it alive hopefully having games installed will help prevent it over-heating.

I think "excited" is a bit of an overstatement, but I am interested in seeing it when it comes up. (Wednesday?) I definitely approve of making the Party system a part of the Dashboard, seeing as developers have been so sluggish in working it into their own games... and I think Netflix subscribers are going to find it seriously useful.

It's definitely prettier, with or without the X-Miis (which I personally will probably skip; I don't necessarily wish to have an anthropomorphic emblem) the esthetic is much cleaner and easier to read.

Watch for the disc copying, though, as folks on NeoGAF have found it might not lead to a performance boost depending upon the title. (Apparently Fallout 3 gets faster load times, but Halo 3 gets slower loading when pre-loaded onto the HDD. Go figure.)

It'll be interesting to see it in person, anyway. And remember, if you think NXE sucks you can always use the "guide" button to bring up the old format dashboard.

Streaming movies is gonna kick ass, that's the only thing I'm looking forward to. As for the rest of it, it all just seems like more of a cosmetic change, not much substance.

I feel kind of alientated... there wasn't anything wrong with the original XBL, now they come out with a deliberate copy of the whole Mii thing? I'm glad that they have fixed some of the things I didn't like, like a room version of Private chat so you can talk to more than one friend at once, and the persistent party support, but this "avatar" shit can go right out the window.
