today after a long class of introduction to art which gave me a roaring headache, i came home and got on Xbox... an hour later my mom walks in and say here you go. it was from Netflix, " a movie? did she order it or hmm?" i open it and squeal like a three year old kid who just saw Santa. EUREKA! SEASON 4!!! my heart flew into heaven and back. I never except it to actually come. excuse me, i am happy once more. Until new doctor who is on Netflix then i am stuck somewhere between heaven and eternal happiness.

Wait im confused which show did you get?
if you love sci-fi then you sir will love this show-EUREKA. welcome to the town of scientist... and havoc.

I am happy. I have no reason for this at all but for what ever reason I am content with my life. I have no girlfriend and have spent most of my summer doing nothing but playing new video games and watching a LOT of anime. I have barely seen my friends due to either them or me being busy. Despite my obvious loneliness I am happy and I don't know why. But are you happy Escapist community?

PS. An ant just crawled onto me. That in turn did not make me happy.
...Your description of your life pretty much described what's been happening for me to a T. Only differences: replace "girlfriend" with "boyfriend," and "ant" with "fly that I have now swatted with extreme prejudice."

...But, yeah, I'm pretty content. Even if I have no money.

That is...wow really coincidental. I also swatted the ant only it proceeded to land on my foot...very awkward

Neutral, leaning towards worried.

On the one hand, I got a job (about fucking time), but on the other, my mother is having neck surgery on July 7th, so...

Yeah, worried.

It's funny how everyone establishes their happiness relatively. Anyone with an internet connection and money in the bank is probably luckier than 50% of the world's population. Still, we tend to compare ourselves to the even luckier people we view. And then world-famous celebrities wish they led more normal lives.

Anyway, as spoiled as it is to say it, I'm not particularly happy. I'm not sad, but, as the poll appropriately put, it's complicated.

I am incredibly happy currently, a state which I can attribute to the following reasons:
1. I am now in a band that doesn't completely suck.
2. The recent improvement of said band and continued it's recording efforts.
3. My recent acquisition of a six string bass, allowing me to branch out my playing and most recently do things I consider really cool/fun utilizing harmonics.
4. The fact that I was second row for a Flaming Lips show yesterday, and had my mind absolutely blown by the amount of wonder and giddy that band can generate from nothing more then large effects units and a beautiful sunset.
5. I have a full pass to my cities rock/other assorted genres festival, and plan on attending every night for the next ten or so days.
6. I have a family I love, and a group of friends I quite enjoy.
7. I have access to the internet, a safe place to sleep, and eat three damn tasty meals a day.

Though some of these are obvious and apply to most in North America, some (like seeing the Lips yesterday) are things that I can't help but be ecstatic about. Listening to In the Aeroplane Over the Sea while walking home from the music festival cannot of hurt my good mood either.

I find it somewhat odd that I feel this well, as I've spent a large part of my adolescence largely unsatisfied with my surroundings and myself. As most of the posters in this thread seem fairly unhappy..... find something you love, surrogacy yourself with it and people who also have appreciation for it, and cheer up. Don't frown, everything's eventual.

Just a bit. At least my fly didn't end up on my foot (that would go beyond coincidental and into "kinda scary" levels). It got whacked with a sandal and flung out a window.

What anime have you been watching? I'm always on the lookout for new series.

Pretty damn happy, yeah.
I got a nice family with halfway decent friends (both IRL and on the internet). I don't have a job but I don't care. I don't really meet up with the IRL friends I have, but I don't really care. I'm just content with how things have been going. I always see the bright side of things (yes, I'm an optimist. Sue me), and there really hasn't been anything to bring me down.
*eargasm*
That, and laughing a lot helps.
That, and video games make me happy.
That, and I'm having a crapload of afterthoughts that I'm tacking on for no apparent reason.

I'm never happy, but compared to all the shit that happens to other people in the world I should be. But my brain doesnt know how to just shut off and enjoy life.

I'm far from happy, despite having to reason to be. At least 90 percent of the planet is worse off than me, probably closer to 98. I am however a miserable little swot that, if I were to suddenly be given 10 million dollars, would complain that I know have to find a place to put it. I am also however easily distracted, hence spending most of my waking hours perusing the internet for stories and music, so I can add self-imposed ignorance onto ungratefulness. And now I've made myself sad again.

Fuck yes, I'm happy. I'm enrolled in a game design program at a reputable art school, I just landed a great internship with a medical software company, I have an amazing loving nerd girlfriend, and I have a powerful computer with good internet speed. Life is good.

I am constantly stressed out over school and my job, and scared to death about the beginning of my career as a college graduate (which is just a month away). But honestly... yeah, I am doing pretty well :)

Yes, reasons following in no particular order.

1. I live in a nice house, loving family, and a $190k salary.
2. I have a large group of friends who care for each other and have each other's backs.
3. The world is naturally beautiful. I look up at the clouds each day admiring the world I live in.
4. People are kind. I think the sheer good that people can do in this world alone makes life worth living.
5. People are living longer. Compared to centuries ago, people are reaching very, very old ages more often.
6. Art exists. Music and pictures enrich this world's beauty.
7. I'm doing well in school, allowing me to have a better future.
8. I know that, one day, I'll be able to experience this wonderful thing called romance.

Probably more, but this should be enough for now.
