So I was wondering, for you American escapists, what are you? A liberal, or a conservative? Why? For those of you that aren't American, which side do you prefer in the political spectrum?

I'm kind of guessing that the majority of Escapists would be liberal, but that's just me. I myself am a conservative. As racist and ignorant as it may seem, I actually believed Bush could have done a lot worse, that it's about time we started doing something about illegal immigrants.

Oh, but Rush Limbaugh is still an idiot. That goes without saying, and he gives liberals excuses to call normal well thinking conservatives redneck retards because of the shit that spews out of his mouth.

I am a liberal with conservative tendencies. I flip-flop often and am on the fence on most issues but at the end of the day I am more liberal than conservative.

I used to be a Conservative, but now I just choose not to get involved with politics, it makes my life and the lives of others a lot easier.

Shoot I put this in the wrong area... if a mod could move it into politics that would be appreciated.

I would class myself as a liberal.

Socially that is. I know bugger all about economics.

I'm both a classic and modern liberal. I also think this poll grossly oversimplifies complex views.

For me it's kind of a mesh between socialism and libertarianism, which I imagine many of you would think to be a sterile mule-child of an ideology, complete with antlers and hairy udders, but it's basically lots of freedom with a good deal of material equality. After all, those in poverty have substantially less freedom than the wealthy.

I'm communist. If communism could be made to work that is. As it is now, I dislike all parties, but I'd probably vote social/green(environment).

I am a Socialist. I suppose I associate myself more with Liberals than with Conservatives, but both the Liberals and Conservatives in America anger me on a very regular basis.

edit-

The American parties I like are:

Socialist Party USA
World Socialist Party of the United States
Democratic Socialists of America

I just wish they could put their small ideological differences aside and combine resources and support so maybe they could win an election every once and a while.

This is called Libertarian Socialism, or, if you really want to look at Socialisms historical ideology, just Socialism. Socialist ideology has traditionally included great social liberty in combination with the command market. It has been only in relatively recent history that authoritarian oppressors acting under the guise of Socialism have made it be thought of as authoritarian.

Put liberal because I'm an atheist pro-choicer who thinks basically everything should be legalised and we should sort it out from there.

OTOH I think the few other laws should be damned harsh on punishments and ruthlessly enforced, Immigration control should be really strict and the free market is god.

So erm, a right wing liberal, I guess.

I'm a conservative, but not politically speaking(I don't have anything in common with politics).
