I tried all different criteria and couldn't find a thread like this? Im sorry if there was one but i simply couldn't find it

On topic, do you have obsessive compulsive disorder? Do you have one on a tiny scale such as doing maths with numbers you see, or a large scale such as avoiding doorknobs?

Personally, i think i am a tiny bit OCD, whenever i see a bunch of words, i always look at the first letters in order and think it in my head. Also, sometimes if im eating and i hit a tooth in my mouth with my fork, i feel incredibly uncomfortable and i will always have to hit the exact opposite tooth.

What about you Escapist forum-goers? Are you OCD?

Well, I can't look at a word without reading it, if that counts.

Probably not.

Most people have OC's (obsessive compulsions) but it's only a disorder if it affects your life in a negative way.

I prefer things in alphabetical order, but will not go insane if somebody moves something out of order for example.

I like putting stuff in order, or making sure something is lined up straight, but thats not too bad.

OCD and ADD or like, the most self-diagnosed illnesses' EVER, so to seem like the cool outcast who think he smart and witty and everyone likes, I'm going to say "no" i don't have OCD.

A little bit, but thats probably just because I'm a perfectionist with some things.

However, it's pretty clear that OCD runs in my family, so it could probably pop up at any time.

I think everyone has compulsions to some degree - I hate seeing light switches with one swith up and the other down, but usually I can ignore it.

But God forbid if anyone leaves the lid off a felt-tip pen in my presence...

I would say a little bit but really only when I'm at work. Everything has to be right and in order at work or I will freak a little bit. I don't care if my room is messy or if everything is out of place there.

I know someone who is really OCD and I love screwing around with her. I will move something and she will move it back. We will do that until she gets angry at me.

Some minor things. I have some weird habits. Everything has to be in symmetry. If I bump my heel into the ground, I must automatically bump the rest of my foot. Quite annoying. Itch right arm, must itch left arm.

And I have some nasty obsessive thoughts. I also see the worst case scenario in everything, especially when talking to people, so a tiny bit of paranoia there.

I also have some weird pattern habits. Like with the aformentioned itch thing, I sometimes get the habit of having to itch a number of times, over and over again. It's a real *****, cause my brain never gets satisfied, so the pattern repeats itself over and over and over.

Not a big deal, it's not serious, but it is a bit annoying at times.

God dammit, you just gave me those habits now. That's also a mind-fuck I have. Someone mention a habit, it gets stuck in my brain until I forget.

I have proper OCD, not the kind that everyone has a little of or the kind that people claim they do something all the time but it's not actually that big a deal to them.

I am organised to the point where it drives me almost to rage if something wont quite go into the right position (and I have broken many an inanimate object that misbehaved), things that change, like the position of a cushion, grate on me. Also, I wash my hands probably 50 times a day regardless of whether they are dirty or not, something just triggers in my mind that I must drop whatever I'm doing and wash them and I can't cope without a shower at least once, sometimes more everyday.

However, I'm working on it and I have things to help me work on it; I can't remember the last time I broke something which wouldn't line up.

Im not OCD at all, and living with it must be such a hard ordeal, I hate it when people claim to be "a little OCD" when in reality they have a prefrence to do certain things. It is like some new buzz word or something, thinking it must be cool to be OCD. Im just curious what someone who has the disoder thinks of these "coolness" around this disorder? Do you feel it is disrespectful of the disorder and the people who have it? do you like the attention and awarness it is getting?

i have compulsions to do things and things which i'm extremly obsessive over but i don't class on the DSM as having OCD so therefore don't suffer from it. I think its a common disorder though almost as common as depression. Oh dear i'm starting to remember things i had to remember for A Level psychology so i shall stop talking now and go eat some cake:)

Hahaha, I sat here for a minute and obsessed about which answer I should give in the poll.

And then I caught myself and laughed.
