I know I am not. It has really been dissapointing, especially considering our hockey team's loss to Canada (7-3, note to Canadians - you did well).
Biathlon wasn't really smooth, Plushenko has lost, curling was a fucking joke and, overall, not really amazing. I'm not blaming the sportsmen, I am blaming the officials who started counting medals that our guys SHOULD win months before the start.
So, what do you think? How is your country doing? And did similar things happen in your country before the Olympics?

Netherlands: not bad, 3 golds atm.

Too bad Sven Kramer accidentaly picked the wrong lane when skating the 1500 metres(men, dunce!). He would've gotten gold if not for a second of doubt.

To show you guys how much the people(in general) of the Netherlands care:

Our government collapsed 5 days ago. One would asume this is a pretty big deal, right? With the Afghanistan mission being pretty much over now, one could think this is big news.

WRONG!

The paper I usually read did put it on the front page, but only half a page, sporting the headline: "Kabinet gevallen", translated: "government colapses".

When Sven Kramer picked the wrong lane, he got the whole front page of the sports section(which incidentaly is teh backpage of the actual newspaper), with a full-page picture, with in a pretty large font(I messured it, 2 inches high): Godverdomme!
Translating to "Goddamnit!", which was Sven's reaction(not my fault he said that, don't hate me now).
The fact he got a big page kind of bugs me, because sports are in this way depicted as being bigger than politics...

As for the results, we're currently in 12th place, sporting 3G, 1S, 2B. Not bad for a small country, beating Great Britain, Australia and Japan.

When it comes to just gold medals, we're 11th.

I've seen that Kramer incident, poor guy.
He gave our guy silver, though.

We've got one gold... and that's it. I guess that's good for a country so bad at dealing with winter that everything shuts down at the slightest hint of snow.

I've only ever really enjoyed Olympic events that have combined art with their sport - For example seeing Virtue and Moir's Skating brought tears to my eyes. It was so flawlessly executed and full of life it reminded me what years of sacrifice and training and belief can get you sometimes. Events like that seem to resonate with me more because they are about more than just a player's skill level.

I just feel like all the Hockey and Racing type sports have turned into one giant "who's country's penis is bigger" contest, and I can't be bothered to watch.

Although I have been enjoying the women's hockey. They seem to play with a lot more heart.

Yeah, Sven Kramer getting disqualified kinda put a downer on the whole thing. I mean, it's logical that he got disqualified because he (accidentally) broke the rules, but still.

Other than that, we're doing fine.

Wouldn't know, I don't pay attention to these things, which may lead you to ask "Why did you click on this thread then?" Well, its 3:37am in the morn and I'm so tired that I'm not sleepy, yet so very bored that laying in bed staring at the glow in the dark star stickers on my ceiling are not keeping my attention very long. Time to find another thread where my opinion does not belong.

Well yeah but Williams conclusively won the skeleton - I wonder if there's a ice track in GB? It looks silly amounts of fun.

I don't even know if we were in the competition or not. Is Ireland in the competition?

Couldn't care less really, it's just people who are fitter, healthier and more attractive than me doing things I couldn't possible dream of doing and getting paid exorbitantly for it.

What? Bitter, me?
You have something like 6 participants. No medals though.
But, yes, Ireland is participating.

Well we're the host country so I'd hope we'd be doing better, especially after all the God Damned hype they put up about the thing. We're doing good all things considered though, Men's Hockey a little rough, but back on track, got 1 gold 2 silvers and a bronze today, and we've gotten more golds than any other Winter Olympics we've been in, so I'm proud of what we're doing.

Australia has 2 golds and a silver.

Not bad for a country that has snow for like.. 4 months, and only in a small small area.

Curse you, Canadian HOCKEY!!! Aaaargh! Seven-threee?!!!!
Hey I was just as surprised [though probably happier] as you at that. Really I thought it was going to be a tough equal match, but hey I'll take it, now we just gotta beat the Slovaks and the Yanks and we're Golden [see what I did there]

Now I'm rooting for Slovakia. Not because I'm against Canada but because they're really surprisingly good here.

I know I've been really surprised this year, usually, no offense, the Slovaks are a bloody joke, but this year, I'm hoping for a tight game, though of course I'll be rooting for Canada

Yeah, saturday i ran into Mark Rutte, and he was giving out balloons and signings,
for the regional elections or something?,
that kinda....seemed surreal, with the fall in mind...>_<
Weird festive mood in this current situation, seemed a bit ackward...

As for Sven, was'nt it a mistake on the coach's side? (orso i've heard)
Yeah "Godverdomme" indeed...
Still, we're doing some mighty fine work at the Olympics.

Yeah, that was really too bad. I'd say we're doing pretty good though, otherwise. Except for the 10km there aren't really any medals I would have thought that we were going to get that we didn't, and I really didn't expect Dutch people to win the 1500m for both men and women.

Also, yeah, it appears to be a pretty big deal here, even though we can really only do one of the sports well (speed skating). I think one of the (three) public broadcasting channels basically shows the Olympics non-stop, and Kramer taking the wrong lane was pretty much bigger news than the collapse of the government (although, to be fair: it was more unexpected).
