I'm 28 and have been single for the last five years. I haven't even had so much as a date or a kiss.

And I'm just fine.

This time has allowed me to focus on learning who I am and how to love myself.

Kinda gets lonely sometimes, then other times i think I may be a bit emotionally immature to handle something like a relationship.
Same here. I want to be in a relationship, but I don't think I've got what it takes to be in one, mostly cause I've never been in one and have no experience whatsoever.

Nope, been with my girlfriend since febuary 2007.

sadly, that disquallifies me as a real gamer.
Real gamers are socially awkward virgins who've never had a girlfriend/boyfriend, lives with their parents, is allergic to the sun and has forgotten how to speak normally.

Irony is funny like that.

I'm single and no I'm not trying to get any girls, due to a mixture of low self esteem and cannot be arsed.
Same as the gentleman here and because of the same reasons.

Although, sometimes, I wish I didn't have to spend my days by myself...alone with a loneliness that burns the very depths of my soul. *sight*

Ah, and now I have succesfully depressed myself. Damn. I shouldn't do that too often, it's not good for me...

While i was refering to stuff like "how 2 sp34k nrmlly lolz, and i was liek OMG PWNING these nabs reel hard" spoken verbally i guess it is kinda ironic that my english isn't flawless, especially considering that it's not my main language.

Were it not for my deep and abiding love of the English language and my outright refusal to accept the bastardization perpetrated by the internet community as an acceptable substitute, that description of a 'real gamer' would almost perfectly fit me.

Of course the socially awkward part is down to a matter of perception - I don't talk very much whilst in public, but this is because I find the topics of most conversations to be unbelievably banal and I don't see the point in holding a conversation for it's own sake alone. The people who know me well always find if amusing that 'outsiders' invariably think I'm quiet or shy, when really I'm just ignoring them because they're boring.

The "virgin, never had a girlfriend, lives with parents, and allergic to sunlight" bits though are spot on, ha ha!

I'm going to agree on that, it applies for me to. xD
Personally I hate abbreviations for the sole reason of typing faster. Remember kids, you can't fill out your resumé by using U's over "you", 2 over "to" and 4 over "for"! ;P

So, apart for the lack of normal speaking, I'm still a "real gamer" xD
Virgin - check
Never had a girlfriend - check
Lives with parents - halfway check (parent would be the right one for the time being)
Allergic to sunlight - check (I knew there was a reason I itch in sunlight!)

However, despite being single and having been so for 21 years, I'll admit that there is a girl who've stolen my heart many, many months ago, however, she lives abroad. I'd like to tell her how I feel someday but preferably in person. I met her for the first time recently but the "moment" to tell her didn't really come by, so... I'm still being patient; For the good or worse, I don't know : |

I am happily taken. I was single for awhile and it was great while it lasted. But I thought it was time to get with someone and it worked out.

Maybe the trend is that people who are more introverted spend their time doing recreational activities that are traditionally deeper, more personal experiences. I mean, heck, most games today still rely heavily on the single player campaign as their main draw, and the multiplayer aspect is often nothing more than a pure competition; as opposed to a social experience. So, in that sense, it seems likely that most Escapist users would be single, if not for their social awkwardness, but rather for their social preferences.

God damnit!!!

I was depressed all day about feeling lonely and how I seem to not be able to get a date, but I finally got over it and was happy for a few hours, then, you remind me of how much I hate being single.

No dates in almost 2 years. That sucks.

Thank you so much.

Single, yes. Bothered? Possibly, it's a two way split, one way goes it's nice to have things quiet, the other goes, why don't you just talk to her?

I've been single for the past 15 years and I'm quite happy with it. At my age, I refuse to waste my time with trivialities like dating.

Also, just about every girl I know could be described in contrast to me in just about every way. I guarantee you I know absolutely no girl I could bear dating for more than a couple days, and judging by the High school relationship track record around these parts, they wouldn't be able to bear dating me very long either.
