No my parents went to college and I dropped out. They are computer illiterate though so I've got that.

Also, you spelled "no" wrong.

EDIT: you did when I saw it anyway.

Both of my parents have P.H.D.s in Microbiology. Which they use to teach at a college and be a world leader in biofilm research.

So yah, they have preemptively one upped me on this one.

Depends. My dad has alot of technical knowledge and know-how, but often displays little common sense. My mum is the other way round (and/or, her areas of knowledge aren't ones that comes up very often).

So it depends on the context, really.

There's whole level of things that go into this, namely, do you consider being wise/having common sense to be the same as being "smart"

I'd have to say that yes, I'm more intelligent than my parents, but that technically, no, I am not at wise as them, nor do I have as much common sense.

They have all the experience of their 50 years each. So no, I'm not.
Though I can totally out-act them. That's the only thing I can take solace in. >.>

When it comes to the level of education I'm pretty much in an entirely different world than my parents, but really "smarter"? Probably not.

I know more then them, so the "smarter" is up for interpretation, if they wished they could know just as much but they don't haveto so they don't give a shit anymore.

Well... it depends on how we define "smart" and "intelligence". I have more book smarts in certain fields, such as the scientific process, and organic chemistry, and whatnot. But my father is a W-1 (Warrant Officer) on a Coast Guard Cutter, and he's the engineer, so he knows everything about those engines... so he's smarter than me in that regard, and my mother is a veterinary technician, and knows how to knock an animal out and perform surgery on it, so she's smarter in that regard, and they're BOTH smarter in the world sense by default, because they've had more experience... you really can't apply a blanket statement to people like "one's smarter than the other".

Education, already aye, parents didn't do highschool. actual intelligence? I think I'm slightly smarter than my dad, but not that much. One of the best people I can argue with, and that's pretty good considering how much I argue with people. Not bad arguments of course, fun arguments. But he has near 60 years of experience and has an entire wall of books, not to mention the stuff he has searched on the internet and watched on T.V., and is very logical. I'd get severely owned on any topic that involves history, even if I was his age. So on somethings he's definately smarter than me in some areas.

I was hoping for an answer like this. Very profound.

"Smarter" is not a binary, yes or no, question.

I have a higher education level than my father, but lower than my mother.

I am less good at math and other academic pursuits than my mother, but better at them than my father. However, my father is an excellent practical thinker and can turn his hand, and mind, to anything he chooses to if he takes some time to work it out. I have this trait to an extent but tend to "over think" things like my mother does, but not quite so badly.

I know higher maths and know more random trivia than either of them. My dad can't spell to save his life. My mom thinks she knows more than she does.

Neither of them are stupid though.

Well i'm not sure about my mom but I am definitely smarter than my dad. The man doesn't understand sarcasm at all and he has got to be the thickest person in the world when it comes to social situations. Even if you try to spell it out for him he still wouldn't understand. I don't know, you probably have to know him to truly understand just how stupid he is.

Seeing how they don't know how to use a computer and always counted on me and my bro to set the record time on the VCR, I would say yes I am smarter than them (also neither of them went to University or a place of higher education while we did).
Ok granted that my mum is sort of good at GCSE Maths.

I have the same level of education as my mother and more than my father, but I consider both my intellectual equals. Too many people confuse intelligence with education. As long as I can have an intelligent conversation with someone then I am willing to consider them my equal or my better.

I've had more formal education than they did but given the number of courses they've taken for their jobs they probably still outrank me there. I'm definitely the most creative one of the family, what with writing novels, screenplays, poems songs etc. My dad occasionally writes a song or two but whenever he sits down to write a novel he just can't pull together enough ideas to even get started.

I suppose I'd say I might potentially be smarter than my parents, when I'm older and have their experience as well. So far the only thing I know I outstrip them on is technology. For all that I don't have an iPhone or iPod by choice, I'm still the one who knows how to work my dads. He likes to stay on the cutting edge of new technology, but he actually can't use it. Also, no one in my entire family knows how to change the Scart cables on a tv for DVD/video etc, so apparently when I go off to university, if I haven't set them up they literally just don't watch movies for the entire time I'm away.

And of course, they have some very weird ideas about the internet.
