Sometimes I think we should make it a rule that if you've never been involved in the development of a game, you're not allowed to call anyone in the industry lazy in any regard.
I'm not posting to fight for a right to say stuff about the industry or anything (even though there is an article granting me freedom of speech in my country's constitution) but why should that apply to the videogame industry and not *everything* else?

I'll have to work for the post office and my country's equivalent to the DMV so I can complain about lost mail and huge lines?

If you want to start that rule, then you abide by it alone. I'm not forced to, but you'll look like a hypocrite if you don't.

I've never experienced this problem. Is it something exclusive to PS3 and Xbox? I've never once had to wait for a patch to finish downloading in Steam, and I often play games the same day as the release.

I could care less about day one patches. They do not bother me. They never stop me from playing a game.

I'm amazed that PC gamers are trying to make fun of console games for complaining about this. They think it's a strength for some reason. It's actually a sign of them giving up. "Why fight it? As PC gamers, we are more used to companies shipping out glitchy games that may or may not work."

It's sad how PC gamers are more complacent about their gaming than Consoles gamers are. PC gamers are used to table scraps, while console gamers expect some quality from their gaming.

No, because if the studio misses a patch that they couldn't fix before release then I would gladly wait for a patch on day one instead of waiting for three weeks.

Patching on the Xbox 360 takes like, a minute.

Max.

God forbid I leave to take a piss while this is going on. I bought the game, it isn't going anywhere. If it has to download a patch, then let it. A little patience isn't going to hurt.

I would say that laziness has nothing to do with it, and saying that it does is sure sign of ignorance. No, I would think it has a lot more to do with deadlines and pressure from Publishers.
As for the patches themselves, well I suppose it's better than having these problems go unfixed. I mean sure it raises the question of why these fixes weren't just incorporated into the final version of the game intended for release, instead of having a patch to download, but I don't know enough about the development cycle of games to go pointing fingers and making accusations (except the ones aimed at Publishers).

I am tired of them for it shows the game industry are fine with selling broke games and not just take the time to fix it before they ship it... Small bugs are fine, but the game breaking ones are just total bs and there is no good excuse and more so if it's a big game developer... The fact so many people are ok with this just makes me sad :( Lets just be ok with broke games that will be fixed later and not even try to stand and say stop it or we will not buy first day anymore... People complain, but don't act because they have no patience or self control... While many will just be ok taking it up the ass I will wait till things are fixed, then enjoy the game and not worry about being screwed over...

I love patches and/or game updates. Then again, I am a PC gamer, and that may skew my perspective on things.
