I was reading through some topics, some of them music reviews, others just general discussion, when i realized something strange about the majority of them.

Yahtzee has an indisputable style. You all know what i mean. He believes something, and he tells you, often very quickly because he has important things to do. He allows himself to get mad, he purposely comes across as comically pretentious, hes a bit of a jerk, but lovable at the same time. I don't really know how to describe it, but you know what i mean. It's that style that we all love him for so very much.

And yet as i write this, i feel his persona seeping into my keystrokes. I admit, I've just seen his most recent, Nazi filled review, and yes, i liked it quite a bit... Just like all the others... hmmm...

But every time somebody has something to say on this site, It's like they are channeling Yahtzee. It's very noticeable is it not? Who's fault is this? Am I doing it now? Was this Yahtzee's plan? And for God's sake, can it be helped?

I don't think it's noticeable and I don't mind the odd yahtzee quote every now and then.

I dunno about mimicking Yahtzee per say, it's probably more a case of us being cynical and (over) critical towards... well, pretty much everything. It just so happens that Yahtzee is cynical and pessimistic too.

My writing style has absorbed numerous influences over the years.

That said, I was insulting people in my writing long before I even heard of Ben Croshaw.

Don't get overly paranoid about it, as long as you don't adopt his exact mannerisms, I don't care.

No I am not trying to be Yahtzee, you unreasonable braggart.
I love JRPGs too much. ^_^

In all seriousness, I do find myself quoting him occasionally. He's just too funny.

In that sense, maybe. But I know my lack of talent.

Probably can't be helped. Lack of personality. some of these people were probably fairly good looking growing up, so in-turn never had to develop a personality... no need to compensate I guess. I on the other hand was fat as a kid (not like: OH MY GOD WHAT IS THAT? fat) so I had to develop a personality early on, and then got hot later. Guess I have the best of both worlds... kind of like Blade.

Or it's just their fandom seeping through.

And suddenly you realize that you are now a fanboy...

I dont know, who cares to be honest? If your a fan, great keep enjoying those qualities about yahtzee that have a special place for you. Just dont turn this into some sort of wide-spreading thing. Plenty of people severely dislike him on this site, its not the end all be all point of everything here.
You obviously don't know what a fanboy is. Go find the Killzone 2 review on G4TV.com and take a look through the comments. After that, the apocalypse won't seem so bad.

Not really... for one he's funnier than I am, I'm also not as big of a curmudgeon... I actually enjoy things from time to time and don't have these high standards from hell.

I wish people would just stop quoting him all the time, they try to make themselves look cool on the escapist by quoting yahtzee constantly, and trying to take credit for it. It's maddening.

And worst of all...they try to be arrogant about it! usually because Yahtzee's best work includes something else down. Or someone. my guess would be that most people came here because of Yahtzee's reviews. I did, I heard about him on X-play.

The ones who quote him so excessively think must think they look pretty damn clever to do itt all the time.

Don't worry I know it too.
Sorry couldn't help myself.
Anyway, as far as quotes go yes, we (I) do quote him but its only because he's very funny and original (for the most part). I don't see a problem with it as a lot of escapists enjoy watching the videos so we all know the jokes and can laugh at them.

Every once in a while I will end up ranting about something, and I will start slipping into Yahtzee's style.

You feel winded after a few sentences.

Articles have been written in the style you're referring to long before Yahtzee came along. He just decided to do it in video form.

I would agree, there are a lot of people that give off the sense that they are yahtzee acolytes. but i wouldn't say i love him, He's funny, but not in a simple belly laugh kinda way, and i never take his reviews seriously. if i want a genuine opinion on the quality of a game, i will watch the review supplements. If i want some humuour, i watch yahtzee.

I've found that about only 15% of all people on this site try to be like Yahtzee. I think that the others just try to be jerks.
