No, they are mindless beings who only want to kill
So there republicans?!

Heyoo!

Okay, seriously though, your co-worker was probably talking about Voodoo zombies, since any other sort of zombie is either

A. Dead, it's braincells can't really porcess any other information other then "Kill and eat"

B. Infected, again, more focused on killing.
thats what i thought at first. but we had a 2 hour conversation, where he said that he wasnt talking about voodoo zombies...i think hes hopeless....

EDIT:Would it work if you fed them a brain every time they did something right or correctly?

Well this is too broad, too many different types of zombies. Perhaps the L4D ones could be trained but what about just the mindless undead wandering? Either specify or leave it be my friend.

yes, in the voodoo religion their are slaves. As slaves they must be trainable or their useless.

If you've ever watched Shaun of the Dead - you'll know that Ed was trained by Shaun at the end of the film...and that was a documentry...I think

Assuming that zombies don't have brains (or at least not functional ones), no.

Shaun of the dead was a spoof, so it doesnt count.

It depends on what movie/book/game you base your zombies, but I'm gonna say they cannot be trained. They're undead monsters whose only motivation is the instinct to eat all humans. You can train animals because they have motivations you can exploit: You can motivate them with rewards, for example a pet on the head and a "good boy", or some kind of treat. You can also discourage unwanted behavior by punishing them in some way.

But a zombie won't go for your treats, and doesn't fear your punishment. All the time you're trying to train it, the only think on its mind is how delicious your brains will taste when he cracks your skull. You can't train something like that.

im not convinced that L4D are zombies though...my justifcation for them is that they are like 28 weeks later. and i did specify, i said not voodoo, and not shaun of the dead. that only leaves regular zomibes...unless there are more types

I assume you mean the zombies from 4 and 5 I have to tell you they arent zombies.
Just saying because it stated "resident evil zombies" (trust me as soon as they brought out the axes, chainsaws, bikes, guns, zombie chicks that are not actual zombies but are "infected", and tenticles, I noticed) so take out the 4 and 5 and I will say yes, we can train zombies because we can USE them.

A skilled necromancer could do it, but it depends on the amount of intelligence they allow them to have when raising them.
The amount of intelligence they can allow them depends on how much the corpse which is to be animated has decomposed. The fresher the corpse, the more intelligence they're capable of.

Of course, many necromancers just prefer mindless servants and never learn how to make intelligent zombies.
They will never grasp the true power of necromancy!

Probably not. Besides even if they were, I wouldn't take the risk. You don't train lions for everyday purposes now do you? Its possible... its just that we don't, due to the offchance that it might decide to nomnomnom on our head.
"nomnomnom"

I giggled.

Anyway, if it has a mind that can figure out not to touch fire, then it can be trained. It's conditioning. If it had no memory at all, then it would just end up killing itself rendering everything moot.

Excuse me - last time I checked, zombies didn't exist.
I believe it was meant as a hypothetical question. Besides, just because they don't exist at the moment, doesn't mean they can't exist later.

In the Resident evil book Caliban Cove by S.D. Perry Zombies were trainable... I think
I may have to reread the book but im pretty sure the zombies had been trained to use guns though they were not very accurate...
