Overhyped? Most of them. Overpayed? Most of them. Then again, that goes for all sports.
First of all, if you play pro sports, you don't deserve millions of dollars. You're playing a game. It's supposed to be fun. Enjoy it, and relish in the fact that you get payed a good amount of money for playing a game. In my opinion, the only people that deserve to get payed that much money are the people that do things to help the world, or live as a civilization.

I dont see why they need to be paid at all, they should love playing the sport for the sports sake, i dont see how they justify being paid so high, you know what an irish sportsman is paid here? JACKSHIT! and yet they give it their all commit themselves to it and at the same time juggle their second actually paying job, they love their sport and i respect them alot for it.

Judging by the comments it seems only the irish never get payed high wages, Goddammit.

Insight isn't the correct word there, Captain Sarcastic.

And you know what I meant.
I don't think any sports players should get payed at all. It's really a hobby, not a career. If only. But yeah, the least that can happen is if professional players get payed lest.

Care to educate me on the right word then...?

Insight seems to fit.

Who gets to decide what is a career and what isn't? Sure, sports are supposed to be fun, but that doesn't mean there aren't hours of physical and mental training, not to mention performancee anxiety (I do think football players are overpaid though).

I mean, by that logic, why stop at sportsmen? Why not tell all those succesful musicians and actors that they don't desrve to be paid, since they don't really have a "career".

Well. I think..Hm.

Everybody in the entertainment industry is grossly overpaid. Or not.
It's hard to decide between pragmatism and art.

You have valid points, but I think all entertainers are overpaid, in my opinion. I guess I took my bias and over exaggerated it.

That mock the week joke comes to mind...

"overpaid, overpaid passes to overrated, overrated passes to possible rapist..."

Footballers are the worse though. They form a massive role model and how do they act? Like twats. The recent case, the assult one just made me cringe, then laugh when the footballer waited for his mate to hold down the victim, then beat him up. How he got away with a slapped wrist is beyond me celebrity or not...

But the majority play fairly..ish, and I belive it's our fault for overpaying them. It's not about winning anymore, it's about becoming famous, and making millons in advertising. Then occisonally playing a game

Teachers barely make a living wage. Football players can snort a kilo of blow of the back of a ferrari and then roll it off a cliff and still be able to buy everyone in their hometown a nice meal.
