Asylum was one of the best games I've ever played. To play the Killer Croc level for the first time at night with headphones was quite scary. That is the best part of the game. Batman is so cool when he goes into his lair when you yourself would never do so. Then sneaking slowly and having a near heart attack when he appears, and you spin around to see where he is. It is also really badass when killer croc runs at you in the end and Batman stands completely still blowing up the ground that traps croc. The scarecrow parts are also really good. The atmosphere is amazing and the story is well written. You really feel like Batman. Arkham city was great as well, but it didn't really have the same feel.

Personally, I preferred Arkham Asylum. I thought the open-world nature in City didn't work too well alongside the rest of the mechanics.
This basically. I actually enjoyed the linearity of the first game.

I loved both, but I'd probably say City. [sub]and no my love for Tara Strong doesn't make me biased at all >.>[/sub]
I preferred being able to explore everywhere and zoom across all the buildings.
I was holding my breath with the phone booth killings because I reeeeally don't do well with timers >_<

Arkham City is a superior game. The game has everything AA had, and more. It's pure bullshit that Batman game mechanics don't work well in open world environment. That was Yahtzee's opinion. Why do people just accept everything he says as some kind of gospel? Most of the time he's just plain fuckin' wrong. He doesn't even have the time to play the game enough to appreciate it. That's why games with a lot of content feel like too much for him to handle. It's only a bad thing if you're a video game reviewer/critic who doesn't have the time to truly sit down and play the game like a normal person. For regular gamers who actually have the time to sit and play the game for as long as they want to, more content is A GOOD THING.

I always felt like something was missing in Asylum. It's because it was too small, and all the stuff Batman was able to do in AA didn't really help make the player feel like Batman. All you got were glimpses of Batman awesomeness. Don't get me wrong, it's still an amazing game. But AC did everything so much better. I was finally able to do everything Batman should be able to do. Gliding across the big city environment was a HUGE contributor to immersion.
Or people came to that conclusion on their own. I normally completely disagree with Yahtzee (although I still enjoy his videos) but I didn't think the game handled its sandbox very well.

Well I liked the atmosphere - the first time through the game you have no idea you are overpowered and it's all genuinely atmospheric for me.
First time through?

I've only played the game once and I was fully aware of how overpowered I was.
I was aware of it, but the overall mood of the game was foreboding and caused a couple "OH LAWD THAT'S MESSED" moments. Hence, atmospheric.

If you didn't feel it... well, thought Silent Hill 3 was more atmospheric than Silent Hill 2, so I get it when people don't feel the "oh-so-obvious" atmosphere.

asylum for the general feel, and the stealth sections. city for bosses (excluding scarecrow) and combat. also the plot was better in city i believe. still, overall asylum wins it for me

I preferred city. It had better boss fights, I liked the open world, and I liked the story better. The one thing I didn't like about city was that scarecrow was gone. WTF, he was the best thing about AA.

I prefer the city in City, but I think they went overboard on the combat mechanics the second time around. Too many enemies requiring too many specifics gadgets at once.

The boss fights were also bearable the second time around. And the writing was better (Asylum's was played incredibly safe).

Oh, and Catwoman's arse.

So, City.

Hardly - plenty of games measure their quality by quantity, whilst forgoing pacing, quality and relevance. AssCreedRev, for instance. I don't agree that that's the case with Arkham City entirely, but that little 'rule of thumb' doesn't ring true, at all.

Oh, and agreeing with Yahtzee doesn't mean you're agreeing with Yahtzee because it's Yahtzee. It means, hey, you have the same bloody opinion.

City. I loved the openness and the Riddler Trophies required actual thought rather than "wait until you get this gadget before this trophy is accessible". The game was also longer and had much better combat and content

I love them both, but if I can only play one, I'd play City. It's just more epic, theres more fanservice with the characters, and it just plain feels more batman-y to have an entire city to fight crime in. Arkham Asylum feels less Batmany and more John McClane Die Hard.

I will say if there was any problem with the open world mechanic it was that they made Arkham City a prison. I mean it works, it's like No Man's Land, but I think we all want a real open world Batman game with a living breathing Gotham. A city that is filled with innocents to save and streets to drive the Batmobile on. Like Spiderman 2, but with Batman.

I picked asylum merely because I missed that tune that played before joker comes over the intercom.
If the third game feature more scarecrow itll probably be my favorite.
